The songs and dancing are so much fun as well. The one thing you can always count on with Sesame Street is that their characters will always be memorable. Without telling my age, trust me when I say I know them all to this day and loved watching them when I was a kid. That followed with me encouraging my children to watch Sesame Street and now, my grandchildren have grown up with these characters. Big Bird, Grover, Elmo, Cookie Monster – the list is long and wonderful.

Elmo is a character filled with innocence, charm, wonderment and a great giggle. Each wonder is filled with color, information, imagination and all the things that kids are drawn too. Sesame Street and Shout! Kids always bring the best and heartwarming brightest in entertainment for families. Being able to share them together is also what makes the holidays so fantastic. Sesame Street has been in the lives of generations so the characters not only bring new memories to the youngsters but fond memories for those of us who are not so young.

The animation is so bright and captivating, which is everything we have always loved about the Sesame Street characters. The puppeteering is fun and mixed with such great humor. Each has their own unique personalities (not to mention recognizable voices) comes through every time and is, what my family calls, reliable and filled with warmth – and that even includes Oscar the Grouch who I personally love.

The Nutcracker is a staple for the holidays so it is with ease that Elmo and the Sesame Street gang bring their own version to add to the holiday watching traditions. Celebrity guests include Maya Angelou, Jennifer Hudson, Kevin James, Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys, Jamie Foxx, Brad Paisley, Charles Blitzen and more.

In the end – let the holidays begin!

50 YEARS AND COUNTING Brings What We Love About Sesame Street

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to a 2-disc DVD set from the Sesame Street Workshop and SHOUT! Factory Kids is an amazing journey down the road of SESAME STREET 50 YEARS AND COUNTING.

Grover starts everything off with a song and dance of Fuzzy & Blue but that isn't the only bit of fun because there is always Singing in the Weather! Ernie and Elmo spend fun time introducing us all to our faces.

Cookie Monster becomes the Cookie Rabbit and teaching us all about the letter C. Big Bird sings the iconic and memorable song Somebody Come and Play (and I still know the words!). Kermit the Frog joins the fun and gives clues as to what is in the mystery box. The Count is introduced with his own counting song!

We are introduced to the people in the Sesame Street neighborhood. There is the amazing story of pie and Upside Down Abbey. Biscotti Karate teaches Cookie Monster how to listen and his fun rendition of Hey Food with his mop top friends.

On the second disc, Snuffleupagus and Big Bird get together as the big yellow feathered friend encourages his friend to put on his running shoes and do a marathon. While visiting the grown up table, Big Bird hands out pictures of all his adult friends including Mr. Hooper and it is a lesson in death. They openly talk of good memories and all while letting sadness be okay and 'just because'. It is the most moving episode I've ever seen of Sesame Street.

Olivia and Gordon and the rest of Sesame Street don't believe Big Bird when he tells them of his friend. They keep referring to Snuffy as his imaginary friend but Big Bird has a plan to get them all to meet. Bird Bird and Elmo do their best to try and bring everyone together.

The Amazing Mumford is getting ready for the wedding of Maria and Luis helping everyone dress up for the day along with flowers, decorations and excitement. Everyone is dressed in their finery to help their friends celebrate love and their big day.

Bob's brother Minneapolis, Bob and Big Bird talk about archaeology looking for things that are old and the Golden Cabbage of Snuffertitti! After telling the story they are all on the hunt for the prize. It's an adventure into history and back again.

There is a big street celebration as a new playground makes so many people very happy. The Commission of Fun & Games stops the party because there hasn't been a dedication ceremony and she's upset. Everyone wants to hear the speech and convinced the Commissioner to do a ribbon cutting and give her announcement! Oscar the Grouch has an opinion about it all as well.

Abby, the fairy god-child, is the newest addition to Sesame Street as her fairy family has just moved in. Missing her friends, all she wants is new friends to keep from being lonely. Enter Snuffy and Big Bird who are more than happy to play with Abby inviting her to the games at Mr. Hooper's store.  Enticing her with the song Everybody Needs a Friend song and dance.

The Count von Count is attending the event The Nobel Prize for Counting and has won an award for the World's Greatest Counter. The problem is that the Count is isn't anywhere to be found and the people giving him the award aren't very patient.

Elmo and Abby introduce Big Bird to their new friend Julia and they are on a painting spree with awesome pictures. Julia has autism but Big Bird doesn't understand what that means. Elmo and Abby teach him that she is a lot of fun, she just does things in a different way but it makes her no less a good friend.

The special guests include Ricky Gervais, Sara Bareilles, Janelle Monae, Amy Poehler, Josh Groban, R.E.M., Patti LeBelle, Phil Donahue, Jose Ferrier, Solang, the delightful Madeline Kahn and the icon Jeff Goldblum.

Elmo Takes Us on THE MAGICAL WAND CHASE on DVD

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to DVD from SHOUT! Factory Kids and Sesame Street is Elmo’s next batch of question when working on THE MAGICAL WAND CHASE.

Elmo thinks there is so much in the world to explore and since they can’t go by book, they are going to go where ever they want using their imaginations and Abby’s magic wand. Their first adventure is ballooning over their city but they are starting to feel a little lost. When the wind and a bird takes their magic wand, Elmo, Abby, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Grover begin to panic!

Back on the ground, the group begins looking for the wand and discover a place called Chinatown meeting Carl and Lindsay who help them look for the smaller bird that has Abby’s wand. Next they see a group performing the Mexican hat dance discovering their culture and a bag of churros. They are amazed at what is happening right around the corner of Sesame Street.

Still on the hunt for the bird that has used the magic to turn herself into an elephant, they discover families from West Africa. They are again surprised to discover another community within their own neighborhood and the ability to send messages by drum! The best news is that their new friends can get them back to Sesame Street.

After chasing after Wanda the Wand far and wide and with the help of new friends – the group plans to return home but not before thanking the everyone for their help!

Their next adventure takes them to another time as Elmo, Teddy and Abby belt out The Knights Song and learn about going on a quest. The letter Y also joins them as their quest is looking for things that begin with the letter Y.

The DVD includes A Bird Burglar, New Friends! And Hot-Air Balloon Mayhem! and the Bonus Features of Full-Length Elmo’s Alphabet Challenge, Full-Length Episode The Golden Triangle of Destiny and Downloadable Storybook: Elmo and the Lost Wand.

Hasbro Studios is an iconic brand with some of the best in animation and family programming with MY LITTLE PONY, and LITTLEST PET SHOP. Since its formation in 2009, Hasbro Studios has received seven Daytime Emmy’s!

Elmo is such a beloved character on Sesame Street and along with his friend Abby; they show us why their friendship is so very special. They listen to one another and not only enjoy each other’s company but reach out to the rest of the gang to join in on the fun.

There are so many values here that are important to children today and they are covered in this DVD. From friendship to cultural appreciation to kindness, these characters embrace everyone they meet and every situation worked out between them.

They also meet new friends in the neighborhoods surrounding Sesame Street and won’t soon forget everything they see, hear and experience.

Currently in its 48th season, Sesame Street is the longest-running program in children’s television and has received more Emmy Awards than any other show in television history.

There is a reason for that. Simple put, Sesame Street has always reached out to children without ever once talking down to them. Instead, they embrace the way children feel, hear and think while teaching and expanding their little minds and transforming them into big, wondrous minds.

That is what we want for all of our children, to embrace this every changing world with kindness and acceptance with ease and we have Sesame Street to thank for helping us do just that.

ELMO’S WORLD: Elmo Explores! the Delightful World of Learning for Family’s

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to DVD from SHOUT! Kids Factory and Sesame Workshop comes the most entertaining and educational fun led by the one and only ELMO’S WORLD: Elmo Explores!

Elmo, along with friend Smartie, explores the world of painting and all the different ways to make beautiful works. Showing how much fun it can be, it is also a creative way to explore all the ways to make our world colorful. Challenging us all with colors, shapes and sizes, it is an experience for us all.

Learning is something that Elmo continues to do as he decides that he wants to learn all about cooking. Understanding that there are ingredients and what it takes to mix it all up, he becomes even more excited about the possibilities.

Wondering about the different kinds of homes there are, he and Smartie look it up to discover there are houseboats, tree houses, apartments and even ice houses in the world. Elmo creates a game that asks where certain houses belong in what part of the world. Calling on Mr. Noodle, they get to see what kind of home he would make.

Elmo learns about the word ‘habitat’ and he wants to understand more and what kind there are. He creates an amazing game that puts animals and other creatures with their right habitats.

Father’s Day is an important day for everyone and even Elmo wants to know more about how the day came about. He creates a game so that viewers can help him create a very special card for his own father. We also get to meet Mr. Noodle’s father – Papa Noodle who shows us all his moves.

Elmo learns there are all kinds of books that are printed and even on the computer. Filled with stories and people, he also learns that people can write books of their own. Creating a story, Elmo brings a selection of characters and gets creative in a story of a pirate.

This is a lesson like no other when Elmo wants to learn about skin. Smartie helps Elmo understand that skin comes in all shapes and colors! Even Elmo’s red skin gives him the idea to match crayon color to skin color on his friends. Mr. Noodle teaches us that protecting our skin is important especially when in the sun.

Camouflaging is something Elmo wonders about and Smartie shows him a little more about it. Creating a camouflaging game, we get the chance to look for animals in a picture that hides them.

Elmo learns about the possibilities of recycling! There are plastics, bottles and aluminum cans that can be transformed into other things we use every day. He also begins to understand that there are bins for different types of recycling. Mr. Noodle teaches us even more about recycling.

The change of seasons are what Elmo wonders about now. Discovering there is spring, summer, fall and winter; Elmo can’t decide which one he likes the best. He creates a game that challenges us to know the season and asks Mr. Noodle what is his favorite season.

Learning about brothers and sisters, Elmo wants to know about siblings. He learns that siblings can be younger, older and even twins or maybe no sibling at all. Elmo also learns that siblings share and care for each other which is really important in a family.

Elmo loves colors and wants to learn more about them by asking Smartie to look it up with him. They both learn that colors are beautiful like in a rainbow but also that colors can mean important things and you can mix colors to create new colors. Mr. Noodles dog Schmoodle joins in on the colorful debate.

Finally, Elmo wonders about musical instruments and the sounds they make. Smartie is pretty happy about it too and is more than thrilled to discover all the different instruments there are and what sounds they make. All around the world, they learn that every culture has their own special instruments as well. Giving Elmo an idea for a game, its time to match the instrument to the sound they make. Mr. Noodle shows how he can play several instruments at once to make a lot of music.

Learning makes Elmo do the happy, happy, dance, dance!

Elmo happens to be one of the first characters my granddaughter gravitated towards when she was barely two. Dancing, moving, singing and learning through the kindness of the red mopped character, it became clear that Elmo was going to be the reason that she continued and still continues to watch Sesame Street daily on our public network.
