The Group Takes THE LONG WALK

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to theatres this Friday from director Francis Lawrence, screenplay by JT Mollner, Vertigo Entertainment and Lionsgate is a story from the Stephen King novel THE LONG WALK.

The United States has become a dystopian world under the control of a totalitarian regime that has a yearly contest. Young men are chosen to walk at a designated pace or are removed until only one is left to collect a prize. One such young man is Raymond Garraty (Cooper Hoffman) who is about to leave his worried mother Ginnie (Judy Greer). Immediately Garraty makes friends with Peter McVries (David Jonsson), Arthur Baker (Tut Nyuot) and Hank Olson (Ben Wang).

Before setting off, the Major (Mark Hamill) makes the rules simple but the most important one is – keep walking! Surrounded by military vehicles and weaponized soldiers, the walk begins. Mile after mile, the group keeps it to small talk except for Garraty’s group who try to lighten their situation. Collie Parker (Joshua Odjick) has a stern face and doesn’t say much, Curley (Roman Davis) moves swiftly with Rank (Daymon Wrightly), Gary Barkovitch (Charlie Plummer) can’t help being obnoxious and Stebbins (Garrett Wareing) looks like doom.

Each step the boys take tightens their friendships as they share in the ‘what if’s’ and the possibilities of winning and losing.

Hoffman as Garraty is a young man who has seen his share of heartache but keeps it to himself. Finding friendship in the group of boys becomes the one thing to hold onto with each passing mile. Hoffman gives us a character that is complex, kind, protective and focused. His flow seemed so natural and perfectly paired with Jonsson. Speaking of Jonsson as McVries, he is almost the twin of Garraty in ways and means. He is also clear on the reason to be walking and finds a protective kinship with Garraty and I truly loved watching the two together. Jonsson gives us a character that is a leader without actually realizing he is and that serves his character well.

Nyuot as Baker is thrilled to be part of the group and is the naïve walker in many ways. It is not that he is unaware, he just chooses to see things simpler than most. Davis and Wrightly as Curley and Rank try to stay focused but get wrapped up in emotions that don’t serve them well. Plummer and Wareing as Barkovitch and Stebbins are the thorn to many of the boys on the walk. They test and taunt a bit which, under normal circumstances, would typically be considered normal but, this situation is far from normal.

Greer as Ginnie is a mother who clearly is having a difficult time being separated from her son. Wishing he had made a different choice, Greer gives us the heartache and struggle to let go. Odjick as Parker is doing his best to not becoming part of any clique or friendship group. He has his eyes on the prize and doesn’t want connection with anyone. Odjick’s character says more with his expressions than with words.

Shout out to Mark Hamill as the Major. If you didn’t know it was him you wouldn’t know it was him. Hiding behind large reflective glasses and military uniform, he is the voice that was suppose to encourage but felt more like condescending honest or even teasing with cruelty to me. I am happy anytime I see Luke Skywalker, oh sorry, Hamill on the screen and this role was his chance to be hands-off wicked.

Other cast include Jordan Gonzalez as Richard Harkness, Noah de Mel as Ewing, Thamela Mpumlwana as Pearson, Jack Giffin as Ronald, Keenan Lehmann as Larson, Dale Neri as Percy Grimes, Teagan Stark as Patrick Smith, Sam Clark as Tressler, Emmanuel Oderemi as Zuck, and Josh Hamilton as William Garraty.

THE LONG WALK is probably the closest to the source of Stephen King’s book to be put on film. The amazing part is that he wrote in in 1967 while still in college at the University of Maine. His first completed novel, finally published in 1979 but not under the name of Stephen King but of Richard Bachman. It wasn’t until 1985 when the world would come to know the name of Stephen King (which I like much better).

The film is a gambit of emotions from shocking, to sadness, to feeling a bit uncomfortable listening in on conversations and back to shock again. There is no way to avoid these feelings as the entire film is the boys walking, talking and seeing things no one should ever see or experience. Lawrence may have allowed us to listen in on the conversations but never, ever let us forget for a moment that stopping has consequences.

Keeping the road as a character in the film, the audience doesn’t have to worry what’s on the right or left because the story is right in the middle, right on the road. The cast is absolutely amazing with powerful performances as each actor playing their characters exactly how I would see and hear a group of boys behave with profound skill. It is the violence that is harsh and the choices each young man has to make it absolutely heartbreaking. Well done all around.

In the end – the task is simple, walk or die!

Her Life When SHE RIDES SHOTGUN

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to theatres from director Nick Rowland and Lionsgate is the story of a father and daughter trying to reconnect with SHE RIDES SHOTGUN.

Polly (Ana Sophia Heger) is a young girl waiting for her mom after school. To her surprise, dad Nate (Taron Egerton) picks her up instead but she suspects something is not right. Recently out of jail, he seems to be wary of everything around him. It soon becomes clear from a news report that Polly is now considered a missing child with an Ambert Alert out. Holly also learns what has happened to her mother and it has to do with Nate’s past history.

Detective John Park (Rob Young) and Detective Jimmy Callum (David Lyons) are looking for the girl as the police attempt to narrow their search. Polly and Nate hit the road trying to find a place to rest until plans can be made. Charlotte (Odessa A’zion) is a friend that reminds Nate that what is happening is because of something he has done. It isn’t long before problems show up at the door. Polly witnesses the violence that her parent’s actions have brought and now she has a target on her.

Both law enforcement and a hit from the wrong side of the law, Polly is getting a crash course in both. Det. Park reaches out to Sherrif Hauser (John Carroll Lynch) to find out more about Nate but feels there is something more he isn’t saying. Nate realizes he is going to have to make a deal to keep Polly safe but the question is who are the real bad guys and who can they trust?

Heger as Polly is absolutely amazing playing the role of a young girl caught up in the choices adults around her have made. This character is strong and extremely smart but has the knowledge to not let on to either. She learns quickly about being trusting and Heger is just amazing at giving everything to this role. This young actress has what it takes on screen and I am looking forward to seeing so much more from her.

Egerton as Nate is a man who has had his run-ins with the law and now, as they say, it has all come home to roost. Taking Polly on the run, dad isn’t exactly ready for all that comes with that. Egerton has moments of pure fatherly but riding on the edges is clearly a man who isn’t afraid to draw a gun and use it. The duality comes off perfectly by Egerton and every moment of that fight to do what’s right is intense.

Young as Det. Park throws himself totally into finding Polly and seems to always be one step behind Nate. The more he follows the more he realizes there is so much more behind the little girl’s absence. Young gives his character the right amount of calm in order to piece together what is missing in the whole affair. He has the same problem in knowing who to trust. Lynch as Sherrif Hauser is, as always, a force to be reckoned with on the screen. In all of the characters this actor has played, he has proven time and time again he is formidable and exceptional.

Shout out to A’zion and Lyons as they both has a part to play in what Nate and Polly are up against while on the run.

Other cast include Kiko Sanchez as Diego, Edgar Damatian as Mitchell King, Esodie Geiger as Maya, Matt Roszak as A-Rod, Santiago Segura as Luis and Keith Jardine as Magic.

Lionsgate is a global leader in motion picture production and distribution for theatres, television, home entertainment and more. Theatre franchises include THE HUNGER GAMES, and DIVERGENT along with JOHN WICK. Now, adding this film to its 16,000-motion picture and television titles you can see everything coming soon as well as available now at http://www.lionsgate.com.

SHE RIDES SHOTGUN is an intense story of a father with a criminal past and a young girl who has been raised around bad choices. Heger shows us the resilience of a kids who has very few choices and Egerton shows us the repercussions of choices and the damage that follows and both of these actors are amazing. The story is so driven and compelling because yes, it is a crime thriller but, deeper than that is a father and daughter who have moments of love and affection. If one can peel away the horror of violence, they learn to lean on one another and learn from one another.

The film is cinematically simple which I appreciate when telling this story. It comes in telling a story and leaves a footprint right in the middle of your chest. Love and redemption are at the top of the feels list with jaw dropping characters bringing author Jordan Harper 2017 novel to life.

In the end – all a father needs is a fighting chance!

BALLERINA

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to theatres this Friday from director Len Wiseman, Thunder Road and Lionsgate is the story intwined with the John Wick franchise with BALLERINA.

Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) is a young woman who lost her father as a child and was taken in by Winston Scott (Ian McShane), owner of the Continental Hotel. Wanting to keep her safe, he entrusts Eve to the Director (Angelica Houston) who oversees the Ruska Roma and takes care of the ballet school and Nogi (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) who will train her. Finally ready for her first assignment, during a scuffle she notices a mark that reminds her of something she saw as a child.

When the Director refuses to answer her question, Eve turns to Winston and it takes her to Prague and Daniel Pine (Norman Reedus). In a matter of minutes, she realizes that Pine is dealing with a repeat situation when his daughter Ella (Ava McCarthy) is being taken from him. Now the chase is on when Eve learns that the man she seeks is the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne). Eve must decide if the answers she seeks is worth breaking all the rules because choices can come with consequences.

De Armas as Eve has the quietness of the franchise and the intensity needed to make this offshoot work – and it does. Taking on a role in this cinematic universe, de Armas has cemented her place in it. As Eve, she is in a solid storyline and shows how it is entwined in the world of assassins and exact rules that, like John Wick, are made to be broken. The tension oozes on the screen and the action is well done by de Armas.

McShane returns as Winston and knows exactly what to do for the young Eve. As the owner of the Continental, it allows him to skirt certain rules and McShane does it with the swagger this character has been known for. Byrne as the Chancellor is a leader and with that comes a control that is part of the problem. It must be said that Byrne has always been able to play a bad guy so damn well. In this film, he is just as much a stickler for the rules when they work to his favor but also seems to control people with ease. Both these actors are fantastic in this film.

Houston as the Director falls into this role again without missing a beat. Training her “ballerinas” comes with a long history and keeping the peace with the Chancellor comes with its own set of choices. Having Houston on the screen in this larger role is a long time in the making now that her role is more powerful than anyone might have realizes. Watching her bob and weave through the film is so cool. Duncan-Brewster as Nogi knows Eve from the beginning and is part of her training. The role is a smaller one but still is impactful on Eve.

Reedus as Pine is holding up in a hotel room but that isn’t going to stop Eve. I was absolutely thrilled to see Reedus on the screen again and taking on what he calls “a bottle of Advil all day long type of job”. He gets the chance to put his hands on fight scenes that are intense which is probably an awesome change from zombies. McCarthy as Ella is a charming little girl who is in the middle of a battle not of her own making.

The audience gave heartfelt love to Lance Reddick as Charon, memorable concierge at the Continental Hotel. There was verbal cheering for him and I was all for it.

Other cast include Choi Soo-young, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Jung Doo-hong, David Castaneda, Robert Maaser, Marc Cram and Victoria Comte as child Eve.

BALLERINA is a two hour and five-minute ass whuppin’ from start to finish. There isn’t a moment where the audience will be able to sit back and take a breath. The story comes in line taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum so everyone understands the time line. The film offers twists, turns (not just the body either), a deeper look into of the story that falls in line with the John Wick narrative.

Of course, I am being vague about the details as I wouldn’t even, for a minute, want to spoil it for anyone. Just know that the action is absolutely amazing and the reaction of the audience never stopped for a moment. There were cheers, a few omg’s, creation to the fight scenes so the entire film is a shared experience and that’s what makes it so much fun. Following the JOHN WICK formula, BALLERINA doesn’t miss a beat and is a fantastic time of a two-hour ride.

Each character feels seamless as they enter into the story and I just loved how it was done and to see faces that are part of the franchise return to tell more of their story. Director Wiseman had a vision and put it on film giving the audiences exactly what they expect from this franchise. The ending is left just as open as John Wick’s story which means if de Armas can handle more of the same (which is absolutely a lot!), a BALLERINA 2 will be well received. The creation of another assassin that sees the rules slightly different than those who control the frightening underworld is done so well and it fits the timeline

In the end – the past can be a trigger!

CINEMECON 2025 Starts Early for a Day of Surprises

Jeri Jacquin

Welcome to day two of CinemaCon with a day full of presentations from the studios of Lionsgate, Warner Bros., and a Fandango Anniversary. Keeping the tennis shoe laces tied tight, there is so much to see and do so taking care of the feet is important so let’s get started.

The start of the day A Look Back at the Year 2024 in Film and also includes the State of the Industry with keynote speaks from President and CEO of Cinema United Michael O’Leary, Charles Rivkin (Chairman and CEO, MPA), Bob Bagby (CEO, B&B Theatres and Chairman, Cinema United) and Cinemark’s Sean Gamble received the distinguished Cinema United Marquee Award.

Following that is Lionsgate and their offerings in the world of one of the most amazing franchises in The World of John Wick. Expanding the John Wick universe will be a new dimension and an animated action film featuring the renowned assassin. Also, the look at director Len Wisemen's BALLERINE movie starring Ana de Armas in that franchise. The chair of Lionsgate, Adam Fogleson brought to the stage director Frances Lawrence, David Jonsson and Mark Hamill (Cinema Icon Award Honoree) talking about the film THE LONG WALK.  Lawrence wasn’t done when he announced THE HUNGER GAMES: Sunrise on the Reaping is in development. NOW YOU SEE ME: Now You Don’t bring director Ruben Fleischer to show a bit of a peek. The stars of the upcoming THE HOUSEMAID let us all see Amanda Seyfried, Brendan Sklenar and Sydney Sweeney in action with producer/director Kevin Feig.

Feig says, “The reason I wanted to call Lionsgate my home is because working with Adam, Nathan, Erin, and the team is always an incredibly positive experience. Their commitment to theatrical is incredibly important to me, and their support and encouragement to make the movies I’ve wanted to bring to audiences has been tremendously empowering. My films are better for their involvement, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be in business with them". HURRY UP TOMORROW stars Jenna Ortega with director Trey Shults and then - a performance from The Weeknd.

Trade Shows and Suites is one of my favorite parts of CinemaCon. It is a chance to come up close and personal to all the amazing bits and bobs that make movies fantastic in theatres. From the seats, to the sound and those that provide that technology include such companies as Barco, Christie, D-Box Technologies, Samsung, Sharp and RealD (and their glasses are pretty cool as well). Walking around all of their presentations, it is also a chance to ask questions which they are more than happy to answer. The Trade Show floor is where attendees can see what products and new innovations will be coming to theatres. I remember learning about self-serve drink machines a year before they were in theatres and I loved the idea then and now. It is also a chance to see all the fun items that come with the newest films from cup lids to popcorn buckets. It is also a chance to see the newest taste sensations from candy to hot food items and trust when I say I’m all for visiting those booths with all the walking around, makes a girl hungry!

Warner Bros. takes the stage for their slate of upcoming films with Jeff Goldstein with logos of Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios and a reel of what is to come. Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall and Teyana Taylor have the chance to talk about their film ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. DiCaprio says about Anderson, “He tapped into something politically and culturally that is right beneath our psyche. It’s an incredible epic movie that has such scope and scale.” The audience is treated to extended footage of the film. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jessie Buckley tell the monstrous story of THE BRIDE! Gyllenhaal says of the film that she wanted “a punk, monstrous love story in a classic cinematic way that respected these characters then offers up a sneak peek. New Line offers up FINAL DESTINATION: Bloodlines that show a mix of death and laughs – my personal favorites together in one film.

Writer/director Zach Cregger has an upcoming film entitled WEAPONS with Josh Brolin (those two words already have me all in!) and Julia Garner and the trailer had my eyes wide open. Jerry Bruckheimer has well deserved bragging rights about last years TOP GUN: Maverick and now he’s back with Brad Pitt (there is that two-word thing again that has me already signed up) in the race film F1. Moving to the more comical, Bill Hader takes on THE CAT IN THE HAT – as the cat of course. James Gunn and Peter Safran are up thanking exhibitors for the success of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 and wants to keep theatre-going “strong and vital for future generations”.  That being said, Rachel Brosnhan, Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet talks SUPERMAN and offers a bit of a peek.

Also today, Mark Hamill will receive this year’s Cinema Icon Award, it was announced today by CinemaCon. Sponsor The Coca-Cola Company says, "Mark Hamill’s career is proof that great characters don’t just live on the screen—they live within us, galvanizing generations of audiences worldwide,” noted Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director, CinemaCon. “This Cinema Icon Award honors not just an actor, but a legacy of incredible work that extends beyond the screen and continues to inspire us all." Hamill has a busy year with three films coming to screens with THE LONG WALK, LIFE WITH CHUCK and The Flying Dutchman in THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: Search for Squarepants which will have my ENTIRE family in theatres to see our favorite animated sponge.

Receiving the CinemaCon Cinema Verite Award is Oscar and Emmy Award winner James L. Brooks. Brooks will be presented with this special honor as part of The Walt Disney Studios presentation, “If anyone embodies the essence of authentic filmmaking, it’s James L. Brooks,” noted Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon, “as his filmography represents a heartfelt cinema of truth. Over the past six decades, he has directed films such as Terms of Endearment, Broadcast News and As Good as It Gets that have made moviegoing audiences around the world laugh, cry and reflect on life in ways that are undeniably honest. As a producer, he brought us passionate films like Big, Say Anything and Jerry Maguire.  We could not be more honored to present the Cinema Vérité Award to a filmmaker who continues to create stories that speak to the very heart of who we are.”

That brings you up to date on day two of CinemaCon 2025. Half way through the convention but far from over with two more days to see what theatres and the studios have to announce to eager attendees. Now it is off to help Fandango celebrate their anniversary. See you tomorrow!

THE POWER OF CHI

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to On Demand and Digital from director David Grovic, Lionsgate and narrated by Morgan Freeman comes the look at the mystical with THE POWER OF CHI.

The film brings us into the thought process and the teachings of Chi which originated from Tai Chi Chuan centuries ago. The power of the body is stunning in this piece as a large man and a smaller man go face to face with a result that is unexpected. Adam became fascinated with Kung Fu and meditation. He went deeper into the world of internal force and he helps athletes with Chi and strongman Brian Shaw is the first to experience Adams force.

The UFC, kickboxing, boxing athletes like Lyoto Machida, Thanasis Michaloudis and Fabricio Werdum are experiencing proof of the power of Chi and experience with fingers touch how off balance they can become. Adam Mizner makes it look amazingly easy just by using what he calls his life force. Explaining to the athletes how Chi works for each of them, the smaller Adam clearly makes them nervous with the power one would think his size wouldn’t bring! Using technique and energy, each of the athletes are startled at what Adam can do. Neither standing nor sitting are they able to move him.

Calli Taylor sees for herself the power of Adam as she watches them push him sitting down, standing up and even on one leg. They athletes are stunned by what he can do with his energy and they want to know more to use in their own professions. Adam believes that Chi is in every part of existence believing the force is life. He also believes that it is possible for anyone to feel it by opening up to it.

In Chi, there are movements that converge to bring power by releasing tension and opening up to the force of the universe. The mind and body are one and the results show exactly that. Tim Morehouse is a member of the US fencing team and meets with Adam with practice sword in hand. Morehouse says he has never felt anything like the energy that Adam is emitting. The thickness of their practice swords should not be breaking, yet, they are.

Up against a large football player, Hunter Hillenmeyer played for the Packers and Bears in the NFL and explains how a player sees the game. The large Hillenmeyer can not seem to move Adam referring to him as “slippery”. Both Morehouse and Hillenmeyer can only explain it as feeling strange and confusing that Adam can do what he is able to do. Adam also shows that Chi is transferrable as Calli takes on the NFL player.

Jason Collins is seven feet tall and played in the NBA and he is about to experience Chi with the much smaller Adam. Collins also learns that the touch of a finger can change his ability to complete a simple lift.

THE POWER OF CHI is such a remarkable documentary showing us what is possible manipulating energy. Seeing Adam Mizner come face to face with men larger in height and weight than himself and controlling the situation in stunning ways can make anyone a believer in the simplicity of Chi. Add that to Freeman’s explanation of what our mind is capable of and doing every second of every day, it is a lot to comprehend.

Watching the reaction of these very large and very strong athletes go through the pushing and pulling shows the power and the force that they could never have believed unless they experienced it for themselves. They are quite stunned by what they are experiencing and we are seeing it on film for ourselves.

Adam says that what drew him to Chi was that one can get better at it as they get older. His Grandmaster in his 70’s was able to do the same to men much younger than he was. He believes that you have to cultivate the Chi and age is not a barrier nor is there a difference between a man and a woman. The technique allows both sexes to practice Chi with amazing results. The young woman Lily has no difficulty moving even the largest of the athletes that Adam moved also with ease.

THE POWER OF CHI, I believe, is about the energy we all have inside us, it is a matter of connecting with it to enrich so many aspects of our lives.

In the end – he is showing the power of Chi!

The Life of REAGAN on Bluray

Jeri Jacquin

Come to Bluray, DVD and Digital from director Sean McNamara and Lionsgate is the story of the rise of REAGAN.

Andrei Novikov (Alex Sparrow), is visiting Viktor Petrovich (Jon Voight), a former KGB agent who has a story to tell about the fall of Russia. The reason he is asking Petrovich is because the man was given the mission to watch Ronald Reagan with the infiltration of Hollywood and what happens in Washington. Petrovich tells the story of Regan’s humble beginnings in Illinois and the troubles at home. He also makes it clear that ‘Dutch’ Reagan’s mother Nelle (Amanda Righetti) was the strongest influence on the young man.

Finding his way to Hollywood, Regan (Dennis Quaid) becomes a leading man at the Warner Bros. studios. When that doesn’t last long, he finds himself the president of the Screen Actors Guild in 1947. There is turmoil in Hollywood with the blacklisting and problems with Herbert Sorrell (Mark Kubr) and it is mixed with his marriage to Jane Wyman (Mena Suvarie).

Soon after, Reagan meets Nancy Davis (Penelope Ann Miller) and he turns to politics stomping for other politicians and running for governor of California. Dealing with protestors and disagreements in the state, Reagan holds his own. At a party, a pastor tells Reagan that he will become president but losing the nomination to Gerald Ford, he tries again in 1980 and fulfills the prophecy. A short time later Reagan is shot, clashes with the White House, deals with air traffic controllers, and begins to deal with Russia.

Even with the AIS crisis, Reagan wins reelection to the White House. It is Margaret Thatcher (Lesley-Anne Down) who talks Reagan into meeting with Mikhail Gorbachev (Olek Krupa) in 1985 to talk of nuclear disarmament. When things don’t go according to plan, Reagan has to deal with impeachment whispers and an arms-for-hostages deal that forces him to go public. In one of his final pushes, Regan demands that Gorbachev tear down the Berlin Wall to the praise of the people. Petrovich makes it clear that the Soviet Union did not understand their opponent and as a result, it is the end of an era.

After leaving the White House, Reagan’s life is remembered by people from all walks of life.

Quaid as Reagan attempts to bring the former Presidents to life with a swagger of a Hollywood leading man (not a far stretch). Once that has run its course, Quaid presents us with a man who has found his unlikely calling – politics. Learning quickly how the ‘game’ is played, Quaid invites us into that life. From Margaret Thatcher and Tip O’Neill, it is the biggest challenge with the back and forth of the Soviet Union and Gorbachev. Spaning the years, Quaid takes it all on ending with grace.

Miller as Nancy is given the opportunity to be the solid presence in Reagan’s life. Always supportive, Millers strength is there without many words needing to be spoken. History and journalists always showed Nancy this way but also as a strong woman who knew her own mind and wasn’t afraid to express it. Miller portrayed Nancy in this way. Suvarie as Wyman gives us a strong, opinionate and the Hollywood actress of the times.

Down as Thatcher is the strong British PM who knows that things are becoming strained and that the only way to get it under control is for Reagan to meet the leader of “the evil empire”. Krupa as Gorbachev has a dual relationship with the U.S. President. There is an understanding between two leaders but when it comes to what is best for his own country, Reagan won’t budge.

Voight as Petrovich tells his side of the story and doesn’t attempt to sugar coat it in any way. It is the story from his point of view and what he knew of Reagan and Voight gives us that portrayal. Righetti as Nelle is a small role but in that is a suggestion of why Reagan believed as he did about what was going on in the country at that time.

Other cast include Tommy Ragen as Dutch, David Henrie as young Reagan, Kevin Dillon as Jack Warner, Mark Moses as William Clark, Trevor Donovan as John Barletta, Robert Davis as Leonid Brezhnev, Jennifer O’Neill as older Nelle, Justin Chatwin as Jack Reagan, Dan Lauria as Top O’Neill, Will Wallace as Edwin Meese, Xander Berkeley as George Shultz, C. Thomas Howell as Caspar Weinberger, Nick Searcy as James Baker, and Darryl Cox as William Casey.

The film REAGAN is actually based on the 2006 book The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism by Paul Kengor. The screenplay for the film was written by Howard Klausner.

REAGAN is an interesting film in that it attempts in its 141 minutes, the entire life of Ronald Reagan. From his difficult childhood to his last days, it is a grand attempt to get it all on film. Quaid carries the heavy lifting of the film going from young Hollywood star to riding into the sunset on his ranch. That will always be a difficult thing to achieve but Quaid takes it all on in good fashion.

It is interesting to know of Reagan’s history before Hollywood as the first time I saw him was on a series called Death Valley Days from 1964 to 1966 (one of my parent’s favorite shows). Only later did I realize that he was Governor of the state I lived in. His presidency followed me through school after that and into adulthood. The world was complicated during his two terms and, as a history buff, I found that part of the film fascinating.

In the end – he believed in his country!

AMITYVILLE: Where the Echo Lives

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to On Demand and Digital from writer/director Carlos Ayala and Lionsgate is the story of AMITYVILLE: Where the Echo Lives.

Heather West (Sarah McDonald) is a paranormal investigator who is still dealing with the death of her father who was also a renowned investigator. She receives a call from a woman who suspects there is a spirit in her home. Setting up her equipment, Heather also takes time to study the case of the young Mary Gonzalez (Breanna Rossi) who has been missing for a very long time.

When she is alone, Heather is writing her feelings and drowning them in vodka and orange juice all while avoiding her family. The one person she does want to see is John (Nick Barelli) because his problems are normal and she can handle that much at least. Back at her new investigation, she begins to feel strangely with a voice trying to warn her to stay away. She finds herself turning to others who have connections to the spiritual plane in order to heal her own pain only to free another’s.

McDonald as Heather is a young woman who wants to make her father proud by continuing with paranormal investigations. Doing the best she can, it is only a matter of time before what is on the other side comes looking for her in its own way. McDonald gives a stoic performance never really letting the audience know who she is or what she is about, that is, perhaps the point. She doesn’t know any of that either which muddles the spiritual waters.

Barelli as friend John is dealing with normal life worries and looks to Heather for a solid relationship. He is probably the only normal thing in her life and Heather holds onto it for dear life.

Other cast include Hector de Alva as the Psychic, Adelina Monroe as the t.v. host and Carlos Ayala as Ronny Bushik.

AMITYVILLE: Where the Echo Lives feels a bit like an arthouse piece with its long pauses, emotional ‘diary’ entries and special effects. Although the story is about the paranormal, it takes much of its time explaining how Heather’s life came to be mired by alcohol and her emotional state. Then again, if you believe in the paranormal, that is precisely how unfriendly spirits manage to get in (if you believe the literature on the subject).

There is not the frights and chills one expects from a story that has Amityville in its title but instead takes time to delve into the life of Heather West and what brings her to the point of finding the light. When creating the family Halloween playlist for the frightful day we all love to be scared for, add this to your playlist.

In the end – follow the voices!

She Sees the WHITEBIRD

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to theatres from director Marc Forster based on the book White Bird: A Wonder Story by R.J. Palacio and Lionsgate is the remarkable story with the help of WHITE BIRD.

Sara (Helen Mirren) is visiting her grandson Julian (Bryce Gheisar) to discover he is in trouble at school. She is an artist in town for a Retrospective about her work but feels it is time to talk to her grandson about something important in her life in order to help him.

It is 1942 and Sara (Ariella Glaser) lives in a quaint town in France with her father Max (Ishai Golan) and mother Rose (Olivia Ross). Attending school with her friends, life seems idyllic and happy for the young girl. Also in school is the young boy Julian (Orlando Schwerdt) who has a disability and longs to be friends with Sara. Both of their worlds are about to change when the Nazi’s arrive in their village. As the Jewish children try to escape, they are rounded up quickly, all except Sara.

Trying to evade the soldiers, she is found by Julian who leads her through tunnels under the school and to a barn near his home. Helping her settle in he warns her to stay out of sight so that others do not know she is there. Worried about her parents, Sara keeps quiet and tries to pass the days hoping it will all be over quickly. To help her think of something else, Julian visits her every evening to keep her up with school work and play games.

But the Nazi’s are relentless and Sara realizes that she must stay hidden for a long time. That doesn’t stop the two from creating their own world where life is good and wonderful. Even Julian’s parents Jean Paul (Jo Stone-Fewings) and Vivienne (Gillian Anderson) make her life inside the barn something to remember fondly. Outside the barn is a totally different world as Julian deals with his own difficulties. Sara discovers the results of war and what comes after.

Glaser as Sara is a young girl who is about to have a life changing experience. When it happens, everything she has known is gone and the future is uncertain. Glaser portrays Sara seamlessly and with an insight of emotion that could be hard for a young actress dealing with this period of time. Instead, she gives such a range of mixed emotion of fear and love.

Schwerdt as Julian is absolutely stunning as a young man always feeling on the outside of things. Helping Sara is not something he needed to think twice about and while she is trapped on the inside, he is trapped on the outside with those who want to hurt him. Schwedt is lovely, beautiful and gives his character all of that as well.

Anderson as Vivienne and Julians mother comes to love Sara. She spends all the time she can in the barn with Sara helping to be the mother she is away from. Vivienne is just as protective of Sara as she is her own son. Anderson gives her character everything we’d hope a mother would and then some. Stone-Fewings as Jean Paul keeps up the home front and is aware of his surroundings and what can happen if anyone knows the family secret.

Shout out to Mirren as Grandmother Sara is splendid as the story unfolds. She has always been a formidable actress and, in this film, she proves that even a smaller role can have a big impact. Gheisar as teen Julian

Other cast include Stuart McQuarrie as Pastor Luc, Jem Matthews as Vincent and Patsy Ferran as Mille Petitjean, Priya Ghotane as Rahmiya, Teagan Booth as Dillon, Laura Hudeckova as young Sara, Mia Kadlecova as Sophie, Selma Kaymakci as Mariann, Jordan Cramond as Jerome, Yelisey Kazakevich as Henri and Vladimir Javorsky as George.

WHITE BIRD is a stunning film about love, loyalty and the will to fight against evil. The cast is so amazing taking on the roles of those who do the right thing against the wrong. The story is so filled with every emotion imaginable because, especially in this time, there is so much hate against people when there is no reason for it.

Sara and Julian are put in positions where they not only have to see the world as it has become for them, but also to create a world where they can find respite from the horrors happening in their town to family and friends. The story offers both worlds with so much emotion and reaction that it is very hard not to become emotionally invested just watching it all. Inside the barn, director Forster brings both worlds into Sara and Julian’s lives and we, as outsiders, are privy to see it all.

This is a beautiful film for all to see and embrace the lesson that Mirren’s character tries to imbue to us all and that is not to let history repeat itself.

In the end – kindness lives forever!

MY PENGUIN FRIEND Waddles onto Digital

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to Digital and Video On Demand from director David Schurmann and Lionsgate is the unbelievable story of an unlikely friendship of MY PENGUIN FRIEND.

On the shores of Brazil lives Joao (Jean Reno), a fisherman and his wife Maria (Adriana Barraza) live a quiet life after a tragedy. Joao has spent his years avoiding the villagers and staying to himself. One morning, as he is launching his boat to fish, he sees something floating in the water. Rushing out to the object, he discovers it is a penguin covered in oil.

Rushing the penguin to his home, he spends time feeding him fish and cleaning the oil off of his feathers. When Maria arrives home, she discovers oil everywhere in her house and a penguin in the bathroom! Seeing that it means something to Joao, she watches her husband continue to spend time bathing and feeding the penguin.

Weeks pass and the penguin becomes stronger and takes to wandering the village and back to Joao and Maria’s home. When the time comes for the penguin to go back into his watery world, the young Lucia (Duda Galvao) sees the penguin in Joao’s boat. Discovering he has no name, she offers up the name Dindim and it sticks, but Dindim staying away from Joao doesn’t.

When the season changes, Dindim returns to his nest miles and miles away. Also, there are biologists studying penguins and notice that Dindim is very different than the other penguins on the beach. When the tuxedo wearing penguin returns to Joao’s, the village is thrilled and it only takes one clip going viral to change everything.

Reno as Joao is so charming in this role, especially since most of the time he spends closed off to the people of his village. It takes a little penguin for him to remember what it is to love and care for someone other than himself. Throughout the film, Reno gives his character heart and a deep well of a soul and his portrayal of this man comes through beautifully.

Barraza as Maria isn’t thrilled to have a penguin in her home but seeing how her husband seems to be opening up makes it all worth it. Barraza gives her character warmth and a sense of herself and the village she lives in. I loved that about her and the scene where she and Reno are waiting for Dindim is just so lovely and loving.

Other cast include Rochi Hernandez as Stephanie, Nicolas Francella as Carlos, Alexia Moyano as Adriana, Ravel Cabral as Paulo, Wilson Rabelo as Marcos Mauricio Xavier as Oscar, Juan Jose Garnica as Miguel, Juan Queiroz as Pedro, Roberto Borenstein as Luis and Thalma de Freitas as Calista.

MY PENGUIN FRIEND was shot on the beaches of Brazil as Patagonia is home to nearly a million penguins. I personally wouldn’t mind spending the day sitting on the beach surrounded by penguins but this is the next best thing. Telling this story of a penguin who travels stunning lengths to be with his friend is not only fantastic but will melt your heart.

The story is one of a unique friendship based on nothing more than two beings caring about one another for love, affection and understanding. Joao learns so much from his little friend and the acceptance of his comings and goings is what we should all strive for in friendship and letting the creatures of the earth live and let live.

I watched the film with my nine-year-old granddaughter who not only fell in love with Dindim but was thrilled at certain aspects (no spoilers here folks) of this unique penguin. Sharing it with her lets me know that MY PENGUINE FRIEND is truly a family film and an experience that can be talked about long after the film has ended.

In the end – this is an extraordinary friendship!

They Heed the AMBER ALERT

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to theatres and On Demand this Friday from writer/director Kerry Bellessa, Joshua Oram and Lionsgate is the story of an AMBER ALERT.

Jaq (Hayden Panettiere) is running late for a meeting downtown and the ride she ordered has decided to leave without her. As another drivers’ passengers leave, Jaq asks driver Shane (Tyler James Williams) if he would take one more passenger. At first Shane isn’t thrilled with the prospect, but Jaq is convincing and off they go.

Across town at a local park, Monica (Katie McClellan) is at the park with her children. Charlotte (Ducky Cash) is playing hide and seek when a car slowly puts up next to her. Moments later, Monica calls out for Charlotte and she is gone. Calling 9-1-1, operator Cici (Saidah Arrika Ekulona) takes the car from the frantic Monica and she takes it to Sgt. Casey (Kevin Dunn) to post an Amber Alert.

Jaq and Shane receive the alert on their phones and look to see the information. Within minutes, a car ahead of them catches Jaq’s attention. Calling 9-1-1, she also is patched into Cici who takes the information and thanks them for the call. Jaq can’t stop the feeling that something is wrong with this car and talks Shane into following it. He is not sure that this is all a good idea, not to mention that he it is causing a bit of family drama.

When Jaq gets a peek into the car, she is more determined than ever to follow it. What comes next is an understanding between driver and passenger that pushes them to continue. When Charlotte’s mother decides it’s time to intervene, Jaq and Shane know what they must do. It is dangerous but they know someone must stop what could come next!

Panettiere as Jaq is a woman who believes that following a car is not only right but imperative. Doing her best to talk Shane, a stranger, into following starts out difficult but with each mile that passes becomes easier. Panettiere portrayal is that of a woman following her instincts, even into a totally dangerous situation. Williams as Shane makes his living driving and when Jaq talks him into one more ride, he could never have imagined where it would take him. Williams gives his character a healthy amount of skepticism, but there comes a personal moment where he knows that he and Jaq are not going to stop.

Ekulona as Cici takes the calls and tries to do what she can. There also comes a shocking moment for Cici and Ekulona gives her role importance. Dunn as Sgt. Casey follows leads and when Jaq calls, he begins to understand that the road to finding Charlotte lies with two strangers. McClellan as Monica is a mother who is dealing with the guilt of her child being abducted but also a mother who is going to do what needs doing to get her child home.

Other cast include Krus Valero as Simone, Sean Ramey as Truck Driver, Jeffery Croft II as Officer Jameson and Kurt Oberhaus as The Man.

AMBER ALERT is a film that will resonate with all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and everyone who has a child in their lives. We have been told over and over that it only takes a second and this film proves that. Lives are more hectic and distracting than ever before and with cell phones, it can cut that second of distraction in half. The Amber Alert was introduced in 1997 when 9-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted. Since then, the world understands the sound the alert makes coming through our cell phones and on lighted highway signs.

The film also is an intense thriller that had me yelling at the screen a few times. That’s probably the mother/grandmother reaction in me coming out in full fierce force and I’m alright with it. That is what a film about such a delicate subject should do, cause a reaction that will stay with viewers for quite a while after the movie is over. Panettiere and Williams take us on the ride along with them as well as carry the film’s message and it works.

In the end – two strangers are her only hope!

There are Lessons with CRICKET & ANTOINETTE

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to On Demand and Digital from directors Luka Rukavina, Kristijan Milic, Dino Krpan and Lionsgate is the charming story of differences that are not so different with CRICKET & ANTOINETTE.

Antoinette (Raini Rodriguez) is the next Queen ant who wants to do things her own way. Graduating with her ant-hill class, Antoinette wants to do something else besides what everyone else is doing. After a bit of a windblown accident, she meets Ket (David Henrie), a cricket who plays music with his band for anyone around to listen and she is shocked. Getting to know one another on the walk back her anthill, Antoinette is greeted by her upset father Anton who can’t believe she brought Ket back.

The entire ant hill is losing its senses when they hear music believing it tears down walls! Helping Ket escape, Antoinette needs help from her friend Antenna so she can warn the crickets about winter, which they don’t believe in. Making her way back, she meets up with Ernest, Rudy, Anthal only to hear they don’t want here there.  She meets fortune teller Betty and her snail George who tells Antoinette that maybe the crickets would listen to her singing about winter using a special hat.

Back at the anthill, Antheodor believes he is a gift to the ant colony and thinks he is entitled to do whatever he likes without permission. Dad Anton is worried about his daughter and sends out ants to look for her. Ket gets into it with his band but what they don’t know is that Antoinette is going to show them that she is capable of something remarkable and is immediately hired by Roach for Roachella!

She tries to convince Ket that winter is coming and he tries to convince her that an ant who sings won’t bring down the walls of the ant hill. They also learn that its possible to have wonderful feelings for each other no matter what the odds!

Rodriguez lends her voice to Antoinette and does such a lovely job of it too. Her voice fits filled with excitement, adventure and feeling as Antoinette stretches out into a wider world. Henrie voices Ket as a laid-back musician who is enjoying being with his friend’s making music at Roachella. Little did he know that his summer would be nothing like he could have imagined.

CRICKET & ANTOINETTE was nominated for the Pulcinella Award for Best Animated Feature Film from Cartoons on the Bay, winner of the Golden Arena Best Screenplay for Luka Rukavina and Rona Zulj, Best Music Score for Vjeran Salamon and Coco Mosquito and Audience Award “Golden Gate Pula” for director Luka Rukavina as the Pula Film Festival.

The film is such a delight to watch and if the story seems vaguely familiar, it is because it is a classic Aesop’s fable but now updated and given wonderful music. It is just wonderful to see two different insects set in their beliefs so strongly that it keeps them apart. When Ket and Antoinette meet, it is charming to see them learn from one another (even if they still aren’t quite convinced about music and winter) and still dare to find deep feelings for one another.

The crickets seem more laid back than the ants to be sure but that is based on their understanding that there are only three seasons and not four. Antoinette doesn’t want anything to happen to her new friends which is why she wants so desperately to help them believe. She has issues of her own in that the ants believe music is destructive and so it is not allowed. Its takes one special character in the film to work her magic on both sides!

My granddaughter and I watched the film together and she absolutely loved every moment. She thought the characters were so sweet and, of course being a music lover, she giggled to the songs. That’s how you know that CRICKET & ANTOINETTE is a wonderful family film filled with thoughtful lessons, fun, and what it means to help in need. I have to say that I found Roach’s speech of where he was going to be in winter hilarious.

If you are looking for a wonderful film to watch as a family, especially with the cooler weather coming, then this is the one to experience. Break out the comfy blankets, have some popcorn ready and cuddle up with the entire clan and spend a little time with CRICKET & ANTOINETTE.

In the end – they find connection through the music!

Protecting Democracy with ANGEL HAS FALLEN

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to 4K Ultra HD and Bluray from writer/director Ric Roman Waugh and Lionsgate is the return of an agent who is set up with ANGEL HAS FALLEN.

Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is once again guarding a President, this time its President Trumbull (Morgan Freeman). Now a family man, he begins to think it may be time to take a higher position in the agency that affords him less danger. Even military friend Danny Huston (Wade Jennings) offers him a position with his company.

On a fishing trip with President Trumbull, Banning briefly discussed his options and is told to think about what he wants to do. Changing shifts with another agent, Banning heads towards shore but notices something odd coming their way. That’s when all hell breaks loose and he must turn around to save the President.

Waking up in the hospital he is told the President’s condition is serious and that he is considered the prime suspect in an assassination attempt. Vice President Kirby (Tim Nelson) has taken the oath to temporarily become the President. Assigned to investigate the attack is FBI Agent’s Thompson (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Ramirez (Joseph Millson).

Banning knows that he cannot stay handcuffed to the hospital bed if he is to discover who is after President Trumbull and when they will strike next. He turns to the only person he can trust but the history between them is sketchy at best. Clay (Nick Nolte) isn’t a fan of the government and sure knows how to protect himself which is what Banning counts on.

As the truth comes to the surface, and it is brutal, Banning isn’t about to let anyone get their hands on the President and he’ll bulldoze through anyone who tries!

Butler as Banning once again dons a suite and tie to begin with but ends up dirty and beat by the end. It’s what happens in between that makes Butler a perfect Banning. Not afraid in any way to get his hands, or anything else, dirty to make this film as action packed as it is. He’s not so much as a one-liner guy, more like a few questions and then an ass-kicking kind of agent.

Nolte as Clay is absolutely killer – literally and figuratively – and he brought cheers from the audience. This character is perfect for Nolte and the scenes with Butler are gems. Jennings as Houston once again plays the role he was born to play, a man with a mission who, like a dog with a bone, isn’t about to stop until he gets what he wants.

Smith as Thompson throws her tiny weight around and along with her partner Ramirez are also on a mission – to capture Banning (good luck with that!). Nelson as Kirby takes over while Turnbull is in the hospital. Keeping the country running is his goal as he decides how to move forward in case Turnbull doesn’t come back.

Freeman as Turnbull does what he does best – act very Presidential. Let’s be honest, he’s played the commander-in-chief before so we know he’s good at it. I adore Freeman so I don’t mind if he repeats a character because he does it with class.

Other cast include Michael Landes as White House Chief of Staff Sam Wilcox, Piper Perabo as Leah Banning, Lance Reddick as Secret Service Director David Gentry, Mark Arnold as CIA Director James Haskell and Frederick Schmidt as Travis Cole.

On 4K Ultra HD the Special Features include Even Angels Fall: The Story, Someone to Watch Over Me: New Blood, Calling All Angels: Casting, True Faith: Authenticity, Fight for You: Stunts and Action, Earth Angel: Recreating DC and Angel Declassified (3 Scenes Broken Down with writer/director Ric Roman Waugh).

ANGEL HAS FALLEN is an action-packed film from beginning to end with a lot of twists and turns. That makes writing about it a little difficult but I’m not about to give anything away.

There is applauding, hollering, cheering and thrills with the film. Alright, I’ll admit I had a good time as well. This is the kind of film that cries out ACTION and delivers every bit of it. This film isn’t rocket science or trying to reinvent the wheel.

Instead, it does exactly what I go see action films for – twists, turns, chases, slips and oh so much more. Butler makes sure we get that because, as with the previous FALLEN films, it is what drew us all into the theatres in 2013 with OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN. The story brought us in again in 2016 with LONDON HAS FALLEN.

ANGEL HAS FALLEN falls into line and makes me wonder, what will Mike Banning do next!

In the end – loyalty has fallen under fire!

A STORK’S JOURNEY 2 is such a wonderful family film that is filled with family, joys, relationships, learning, acceptance and fun. Richard is already part of a flock, even with his differences, yet lets his ambitions gets in the way of what is truly important. Instead of understanding what went wrong, he decides to journey out into the world because, after all, he knows better right?

Well, that’s when his adventure begins and he discovers others who are in trouble and need his help. Learning from Samia is the best thing that could ever have happened to Richard. Their adventure is one of learning about what it takes to be a true leader, about what it takes to care for more than one’s self.

More importantly, it is a story of bravery and sacrifice to help those who are unable to help themselves. Richard discovers what it truly takes to be a leader with the help of Samia and his new friends. Through that understand, he not only becomes closer to his stork flock, but realizes where he needs to be.

The animation is stunning with such color that is eye candy for the kid in us all. Bringing such vivid color brings the story even depth in the telling and fun for the family to watch together.

In the end – they are on a treasured adventure!

ONE FROM THE HEART: Reprise

Jeri Jacquin

Coming to 4K Ultra HD and Bluray from director Francis Ford Coppola and Lionsgate is a story of two people who take ONE FROM THE HEART: Reprise.

It is Independence Day in the sin city town of Las Vegas. Frannie (Teri Garr) is a travel agent who is in a five-year relationship with mechanic Hank (Frederick Forrest). She wants adventure in her life when Hanks seems happy enough at home playing his trumpet. Frannie has had enough of feeling as if Hank just doesn’t care about her or their relationship.

Deciding it is time for her to strike out, Frannie meets singer/waiter Ray (Raul Julia) and together they have a whirl wind night and make plans for an adventure. Meanwhile, Hank decides that he is going to go out with circus performer Leila (Nastassja Kinski) but regrets it in the morning.

Deciding that its Frannie he wants, it is now a race for Hank to prove that he is capable of being the man she needs but is it too late?

Garr is absolutely brilliant as Frannie, a young woman who clearly wants love, affection and respect from her five-year relationship. When Hank can’t give that to her in any more, she decides to get out and experience a bit of the wild side of life. She is delighted by the lights and freedom being away from it all brings. I just love the dance sequence with Julia as it adds such a fantastic layer to her role.

Forrest as Hank is straight forward and a bit under emotional when it comes to his relationship with Frannie. Even when she makes it clear that he is lacking in their relationship, he makes no effort to keep her. Trying to be as adventurous as Frannie, he does take a chance but it only brings him regret and a deep desire to fix things even if he’s stuck in how to do that. Forrest is actually perfect for this role bringing in that emotionally unattached persona.

Julia as Ray is just as handsome as he wants to be. Being a Julia fan from as far back as I can remember, I was thrilled to see him on the screen and the dance numbers are just brilliant. He came in not as Mr. Right but Mr. Right-now to Frannie but I can’t imagine anyone else playing this role now. Kinski as Lelia is the circus performer who was falling for Hank but truly didn’t know what she was getting into but that doesn’t mean a heart can’t be broken quickly. She is so lovely.

Other cast includes Lainie Kazan as Maggie, Harry Dean Stanton as Moe, Allen Garfield as the restaurant owner and Rebecca De Mornay as an understudy.

Special Features of the PKG Only are 4K Disc – ONE FROM THE HEART: Reprise, Francis Ford Coppola Feature Commentary, New The Look of ONE FROM THE HEART, New The Cast of ONE FROM THEHEART, New The Choreography of ONE FROM THE HEART, New Reinventing the Musical: Baz Luhrmann ONE FROM THE HEART, New ONE FROM THE HEART: Reprise, Restoration Comparison and New 2024 Trailer.

Bluray Disc – ONE FROM THE HEART 1982 Cut, The Making of ONE FROM THE HEART, The Dream Studio, The Electronic Cinema, Tom Waits and the Music from ONE FROM THE HEART, Deleted Scenes, Videotaped Rehersals, Francis Ford Coppola Speaks to the Exhibitors, Press Conference at the Studio, This One’s From the Heart Music Video, Stop-Motion Demo, The Tom Waits Score: Alternate Tracks, 2003 Theatrical Trailer and 1982 Theatrical Trailer.

A bit of trivia in that Gene Kelly was a consultant on the extremely wonderful dance sequence between Raul Julia and Teri Garr which as restored in the 2003 restoration of the film. Also, in the elevator scene, Coppola had his own parents, Italia and Carmine Coppola play the couple in the elevator.

If, after watching the film, you feel a tad bit of LA LA LAND, you wouldn’t be the only one. The music, dancing and songs are absolutely stunning and the story is a heart wrencher. I am a firm believer that if you put in the right music, it will bring the film to another level and in ONE FROM THE HEART it absolutely does. The bright colors of sin city and the back drops are just beautiful and also add another layer to the telling.

Coppola had a great idea here for the time this film was made. It didn’t get the treatment or reception is certainly deserved then but now, returning to 4K Ultra HD, everyone gets the opportunity to see the stunning vision of the story of Frannie and Hank.

In the end – a unique vision of love!
