MARRY ME Comes Down the Aisle on Bluray

Coming to Bluray, DVD and Digital from director Kat Coiro and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is what happens when you hold up a sign that says MARRY ME.

Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez) is a mega-superstar who has recorded the song Marry Me with her fiancé Bastian (Maluma). Now, they have decided to actually marry at a concert and gives twenty million fans a glimpse of glamor. But right before the ‘I do’s’, a breaking news story sets in motion a surprise that the world could not have seen coming.

Out in the audience is Math teacher Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), teenage daughter Lou (Chloe Coleman) and friend Parker (Sarah Silverman). He has a sign that says, ‘Marry Me’ and once Kat sets her sights on it, she agrees in front of everyone. Coming to the stage, Charlie sees that Kat is devastated but goes along with the ceremony.

Now, Kat is a married woman and manager Collin (John Bradley) has to figure out how to handle the press aspect of the shock. Everyone else is thrilled for Charlie but he admits that he really does not know much about Kat or her music. On a whirlwind media frenzy, Charlie does what he can, but he is a dedicated schoolteacher and makes it clear nothing comes before that.

That is when Kat decides to learn about Charlie’s life and finds that she is truly interested in it. The two become close and there seems to be a true match, that is until Bastian comes back into her life and Charlie doubts he truly has a place in her life.

Music and love need to find a way!

Lopez as Kat gives us the rom-com she has been famous for over the years. Once again, a character looking for love in the midst of her half-eye closed pouty lip whispers of how sad she is. This is not a stretch for Lopez, she followed the formula to the letter.

Wilson as Charlie also gets to stay with the formula of being that average Joe who just happened to be at a concert and – well got married. What I will give Wilson is the characters dedication to the students before any of the glitz and glamor nonsense that came along with getting weirdly married. The equal love for daughter Lou and her needing special attention is also a passing grade for Wilson’s character.

Bradley as Collin is the manager that manages everything, including disasters brought on by this unusual wedding. Running around to make wrong things right, Kat marrying Charlie is something he cannot control. It is nice to see Bradley try different roles, and this is his second film release in two weeks.

Silverman as Parker was relatively annoying throughout the film, but she got the chance to throw out one-liners and be the protective friend to Charlie. Coleman as daughter Lou is thrilled that her father has married the pop superstar and comes out of her shell a bit as the days pass. This actress is very sweet and plays opposite Wilson like a pro.

Other cast include Utkarsh Ambudkar as Coach Manny, Brady Noon as George, Stephen Wallem as Jonathan Pitts, Katrina Cunningham as Tyra and Jimmy Fallon as himself.

MARRY ME is a bit like walking down memory lane of several rom-coms. The snapping of the expensive jewelry box a la PRETTY WOMAN starts off my eye rolling. The first stage performance gives an ode to LIKE A PRAYER nunnery mischief with an added feature of IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME privates-strapping outfit.

The character of Kat being married four times, I’m sure Lopez can easily relate to that herself. Her ‘Queen of the Night’ costuming is surrounded by a song that’s lyrics are repetitive, and again repetitive. I probably could have learned the song in the same take, but my brain cannot do it (i.e. ‘marry me, marry me’ and ‘ring, ring, ring, sing, sing, sing’)

There comes a point where I felt as if I was watching MAID IN MANHATTAN in reverse with an ending that was reminiscent of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. So, basically, I felt like the writers just decided to pull all the rom-coms out of the value and steal pieces here and there.

All of this being said, it was not the most nauseating rom-com that I have seen. It is a formula film with two actors who have made their mark in that genre. It has its moments that bring a grin and a few one liners of wit. Would it make me run to the theatres? Not really, this is more of a rainy-day Saturday curled up channel flicking film.

But, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there are those looking for a bit of romance, a bit of music and a reason to be back in the theatre seat. Lopez and Owen are charming and that says a lot for the film.

In the end – just marry me!

Disney's RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET Smashes onto Bluray

On Bluray, DVD and Digital from directors Rich Moore, Phil Johnston and Disney Home Entertainment comes RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET.

Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) are still hanging out as the best of friends. Still part of the Litwak's Family Fun Center and Arcade, they are happy with how their lives have changed since their last adventure.

Well, at least Ralph is happy as Vanellope is looking for something exciting to break up the routine. Her bff decides it is up to him to make that happen and adds a bonus track to her race. She is thrilled but the player of the game isn't able to control things and the steering wheel becomes broken in the real world.

Mr. Litwak (Ed O'Neill) knows that the maker of the game Sugar Rush has been out of business for some time and discovers that a replacement wheel is to expensive. That's when Ralph and Vanellope decide that they are going to get one themselves in a place called the Internet. Going to eBay they place a wild bid on the wheel and now have to come up with the money!

Trying ways to get the cash, it is Ralph and when he becomes a viral sensation, they also learn the dark side of the internet. When things go wrong, Vanellope gets very upset at Ralph and all video game breaks loose. When a virus is unleashed, Ralph knows he has to make everything right AND still get the wheel to help his best friend.

Things in the game world is about to change!

Reilly reprises his vocal role as the animated and loveable Wreck-It Ralph. In this adventure he is happy with how things have been going but when Vanellope needs something more - her friend provides it. Even when things go a little wackadoodle Ralph wants to make it right for his friend and their next adventure begins.

Silverman as Vanellope loves her friendship with Ralph and isn't surprised that he would want to add something fun to her life. Their adventure together takes them into the internet and a whole new group of characters and all because her friend Ralph wants to save her game Sugar Rush. These two were destine to be friends no matter what happens.

Other cast include: Gal Gadot as Shank, Taraji P. Henson as Yesss, Jack McBrayer as Felix, Jane Lynch as Calhoun, Alan Tudyk as KnowsMore, Alfred Molina as Double Dan, Bill Hader as J.P. Spamley and John DiMaggio as Arthur.

Watching the friendship of Ralph and Vanellope was entertaining in 2012 and it is just as entertaining in 2019. Ralph is the loveable big guy who is completely misunderstood and only wants what's best for his friends - especially his bff Vanellope. He wants her happy and would do anything to make that happen. Now there is a good friend!

And that's what the pair has together (even when they sometimes don't see eye to eye), a friendship that is so full of caring and fun that it's hard not to watch every single second with a bit of a grin. I have to admit that having the Disney Princess' in the film sure does bring a lot of fun and watching Vanellope give them a make-over is pure classic fun.

Basically, this is good animated fun for the entire family and with all the rainy days it’s a great chance to cuddle up together with a Ralph size popcorn and enjoy!

In the end - they are best friends no matter what!

HBO’s CRASHING is Looking for the Nearest Sofa!

Coming to Bluray this week from the mind of Pete Holmes and HBO Home Entertainment is the comedy series CRASHING: The Complete First Season.

Pete (Pete Holmes) is a Christian comedian who is trying to make his way onto the comedy circuit. Married to Jessica (Lauren Lapkus), Pete is happy with his life and where it is all going. Off to hand out flyers for his time on stage at the club, Pete comes home to find Jessica is bed with art teacher Lief (George Basil).

That’s when Jessica tells him she wants a different life and is moving to Florida with Lief. Pete goes on a comedy bender and meets Artie Lange who lets Pete spend a few nights crashing on his couch. When Lange goes on the road he takes Pete with him as a protector to keep from going on a drug or alcohol bender.

When that goes haywire, Pete meets T.J. Miller who gives Pete a day or two crashing on his couch. But when Pete learns he has to go save his belongings from Jessica’s yard sale, T.J. is along for the ride for sure. Lief tries to make amends with Pete by helping him retrieve comedy notebooks.

When the annual parent dinner comes around, Pete begs Jessica to go with him. She is surprised that he hasn’t told his parents of their divorce but feels the need to help him through it. Unfortunately, when Pete’s Mom begins on Jessica, all hades breaks loose.

Pete calls into Lange’s podcast and his guest Sarah Silverman encourages him to come and join the show. He arrives and begins sharing his messed up relationships and how it is being a Christian and a comic with Silverman. Later that night she sees Pete handing out flyers and invites him to come crash at her place.

Being cool with him, Silverman offers to help Pete get a ‘warm-up’ job with the Rachel Ray Show that goes amazingly well. Happy to have a job doing something fun, he has a new pep in his step. Of course after meeting Liefs wife and a few drinks, things go a little awry and so does the job.

Finally, Pete and Lange goes to the party of a friend back home at his church. After going through some serious talk with the pastor, he sees Jessica who seems to be having a crisis of faith of her own. This isn’t your ordinary baptism and Lange decides that perhaps he is missing something about it all.

This is the life of the ones who make us laugh!

Holmes as Pete is a seriously confused but hilarious guy who just wants to succeed at comedy. It’s hard to do when there isn’t any money and only so many couches you can crash on. Yet he manages to go from place to place meeting some hilarious individuals in their own comic right along the way. He is charming, sweet and in some sense innocent and that’s how he stumbles onto so many sofas. There is a part of this character that any soft hearted person would want to protect but then again he’s to fun to watch just how he is. Wonderfully done Pete!

Lapkus as Jessica also looks so sweet and innocent, that is until Lief comes out of the bathroom to Pete’s surprise. She wants something different and since she can’t get it from Pete, she’s happy to sell everything and start over again. Basil as Lief is a guy who just seems to not get it, or he does but is trying to take the Zen attitude and be buddy-buddy with Pete. He certainly made me laugh a few times.

The appearances of Arte Lange, T.J. Miller, Sarah Silverman are just fantastic because they see something in Pete and yet it feels like they weren’t acting at all.
