He's back! Coming Exclusively to Amazon Prime Video from director Jason Woliner is another chapter in this journalist’s life with BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM.

Borat Sagdiyev (Sasha Baron Cohen) has been spending a little time in prison in Kazakhstan since his last trip to the United States. After losing his home, livestock and sons, all he has left is his non-male daughter Tutar (Maria Bakalova). Now, the leader is asking Borat to once again go to America and offer a monkey to bribe Donald Trump to gain favor.

Arriving, Borat waits for the arrival of the monkey only to find that daughter Tutar is in the crate. Realizing he'll be killed because of the failed mission; he offers up his daughter as an alternative gift.

Getting a phone and attempting to make over daughter Tutar to make her more appealing, his mission is to find Vice President Mike Pence and give him the gift. When the plan runs into a problem, they go through the rolodex of Trump men to find someone closer to him. Borat chooses someone very close to Trump - Rudy Giuliani.

With that choice comes more changes for Tutar but when Borat leaves her with a babysitter, she gets a lesson in what her father has taught her and what is true in the world. That is when Tutar decides she is going to go out into the world and become a journalist without her father and she starts by getting an interview with - Rudy Giuliani.

Feeling a bit of never-before-felt emotion, he now realizes that he does not want his daughter to follow the rules of Kazakstan and be happy. Now, Tutar is in a room with Giuliani and Borat breaks in to let her know that she does not need to be a gift to anyone.

They are definetly sheered from the same sheep!

Cohen as Borat puts on the suit once again and find the people who set our teeth on edge yet make us laugh at the same time. Pushing the limits as Cohen has always tended to do, he meets the most unusual people (and I am not sure that is a good thing but can’t be judgmental about it right? RIGHT?) who guide him on a path of chaos. Nice to see he has not lost his sense of twisted humor because gawd knows we all could use a bit of that right now.

Bakalova as Tutar is the young woman who believes everything her father, and the book, says. Once she gets to meet Jeanise, well, Borat is in for rebellion like he is never seen before. Bakalova is funny, charming, sweet and does some things that are going to give me nightmares for a little while but nothing traumatic. If I can sit through slasher films, I cannot complain. I mean I could but…

There are going to be those that are completely outraged (which is going to be kind of fun to read about), those that just can’t take that kind of humor (which is going to be kind of fun to read about) and those who take it all in whether they are outraged, grossed out, tripped up, and filled with uncomfortable laughter that turns into fall on the floor teary eyed laughs.

I tend to be the later since I am all for any kind of crazy right now as most people are. Cohen just lets Borat loose and the mayhem ensues quickly. Do we really expect anything less? Of course, I am very vague in my description of the film because I want each and every jaw drop, I had to be experienced freely. Why should I be the only one?

From creating songs for a Trump rally to going to a southern cotillion which, to be fair, I have always loved, Cohen checks in on anyone who will be offended by Borat. That being said, I think his time with the fax-man is hilarious. Seriously, who would send faxes like that and not stop to question it? Sweet guy though!

Now, there is a lot of talk about the scene where Tutar interviews Rudy Giuliani and, it must be said, it is so disturbing on the part of this supposed pillar of the political and legal community. From the moment Tutar sits down I am almost immediately creeped out. However, it is what happened after the interview that has my head spinning. Once more see it I think Giuliani has got some serious explaining to do and I’ll be listening.

BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM is not going to be for everyone and its going to definetly be zoom-meeting conversation. It would be even more hilarious if it weren’t so sadly apparent that this country needs to find itself again because the people in it have become so horribly lost.

Okay, blubbering over our ‘oh poor is us’, the film has some fantastic moments and right now I’m pretty okay with having a few fantastic moments.

In the end - a legend returns!

It is the Story of 2 HEARTS

Currently in theatres from director Lance Hool and Freestyle Releasing is the story of love and what some will do for the gift of 2 HEARTS.

Leslie (Radha Mitchell) is a flight attendant preparing to board a plane when Jorge (Adan Canto) catches her eye. She cannot help but smile as him as he seems just as struck! Once aboard the plane, Jorge asks that she sit and hold his hand since flying makes him a little jittery. Charmed by him, Leslie has no choice but oblige him.

Jorge is a member of the Bolivar family business along with his brother Joaquin (David Perez) and Father Jose (Steve Bacic). Returning to his Miami home, he quietly tells his brother about Leslie and that he has met his future wife. Finding ways to meet up with her flying schedule, Leslie and Jorge find time to be together and fall in love and Jorge reveals his medical condition. She makes it very clear that it doesn't change how she feels!

With a perfect wedding on the beach, they know that this was meant to be. Hoping to have a family, their first difficulty is knowing that children are not in their future and as time goes by, Jorge's medical condition grows steadily worse.

Chris (Jacob Elordi) is a young man full of life and does not take things too seriously. Off to college enjoying that life, he accidentally runs into Sam (Tiera Skovbye), a serious student who believes in causes and studying. Knowing it is the only way he can be with her, Chris signs up to be a patrol buddy so they can spend time together.

Being with Sam gives Chris a jump-start to his life as his grades improve, and he decides what he wants to do with his life. Much to the surprise of his parents and siblings, they could not be happier that he has found someone to care for more than himself. Seeing a life of marriage and children, Chris has never been happier.

In an instant life is about to change for both of these men and that is what happens while we are out making plans!

Mitchell as Leslie is a beautiful lady and sees something special in Jorge. Wanting to make a life all about family, she sees that with him. Every moment they spend together is a gift and Leslie want to make sure to be grateful for that. Mitchell gives her character such light and a lightness even when things become dark.

Canto as Jorge is a man who has grown up knowing about his illness but does not let that stop him from succeeding. Loving being part of the family business and family, he is just as surprised at everyone else when Leslie hits him like a thunderbolt. He cannot imagine one moment without her and finds the most loving ways of proving that. Canto was one of my favorites in the series DESIGNATED SURVIVOR as Aaron Shore so I was equally thrilled to see him take on this role. Jorge is a strong man but does not mind showing a loving side in all things, especially Leslie.

Elordi as Chris is a young man living that young life. Always being goofy and not focusing as seriously as his older brother and parents might like, it is when he finds something greater than himself in Sam that he sees for the first time what everyone is talking about. Wanting her, a home, family and all that goes with it is his focus - starting with being a patrol buddy!

Skovbye as Sam is such a lovely young woman who seems destined to continually bump into Chris. Even though she has a boyfriend, she is enjoying her friendship with this outgoing and funny guy. She is serious about doing good for people which does eventually rub off on Chris (without other intention) as she laughs her way into his heart. Skovbye gives her character such warmth and humor.

Other cast include Kari Matchett as Grace, Tahmoh Penikett as Erik, Jordan Burtchett as Colin, Anthony Konechny as John, and Malcolm Stewart as Dr. Dean.

SYNCRONIC Tempts Time

Coming from directors Justin Benson, Aaron Moorehead, Patriot Pictures and Well Go USA is time and those who try to mess with SYNCHONIC.

Dennis (Jamie Dornan) and Steve (Anthony Mackie) are best friends serving as Paramedics in New Orleans. Dennis is grumpily married to the very happy Tara (Katie Aselton) as they get ready to celebrate the birth of their child. Also joining them is the moody Brianna (Ally Ioannides).

Dennis and Steve have been friends for more years than they can count so working together is a bonus. Lately there have been a string of strange deaths brought on by a designer drug. Steve is so angry about it he tracks down the last batch.  Just when these two think they have seen it all, they haven't.

Steve discovers something about himself and decides not to tell Dennis believing he has enough going on in his life, especially when his 18-year-old daughter Brianna mysteriously disappears. Feeling down, Steve decides to try the Synchronic and what happens to him is absolutely unbelievable.

But it may save someone he loves!

Mackie as Steve is a strong character to play in a film that has a story as twisted around as this one is. Examining his life and friendship causes him a bit of turbulence and brings up worries about some, as Dennis see it, bad habits. Mackie dives right into the story and knocks it out of the part keeping me curious the entire film. The inquisitive mind takes over and with the help of Stephen Hawkings (you will get this later), discovers the world has always been a much bigger place in time.

Dornan as Dennis is a man who just can't seem to find his happy. Grouchy about everything currently and pretty much everything for the last 20 years is irritating - yet his friendship with Steve takes it on the chin. When his daughter mysteriously disappears, it is time for Dennis to do some life examination of his own. Dornan plays the moments of shocks with the same reactions I would have - once you pick up your jaw from the floor it is time to do something about a situation.

Ioannides as Brianna starts the film having something to say but no time to say it and pulling away from her parents. By the end, she is pretty happy to see an adult! Aselton as Tara is devastated when her daughter is missing and the cracks in the marriage to Dennis begin to show.

SYCHRONIC messes with relationships, friendships, time, synthetics and understanding that all four of these do not go very well together. What I really like about the story is the story of facing life and accepting that sometimes friends are going to make you nuts. That part of the story is believable.

For the twists that SYNCRONIC brings about time, it is so fascinating to watch Steve work out the problems step by step. Where he goes and what he experiences is life altering for him in so many ways.

The final scenes of the film were enough to get me a little choked up because of the sacrifices people are willing to make for one another. The film does not rely on heavy CGI but instead focuses on the characters, be they main or a few moments on screen, and their place in the story.

All of this is wrapped up in a mystery that Steve finds frightening and yet satisfying in his life. He may know fear in what he finds but that does not stop him from continuing to search for Brianna, even knowing the consequences. The poster for the film is a perfect visual description of the film as well.

In the end - one pill and seven minutes to see another look at time!

There is No Escaping KINDRED

Coming from writer/director Joe Marcantonio, Jason McColgan and IFC Films is a tale of facing the KINDRED.

Charlotte (Tamara Lawrance) is very happy living with boyfriend Ben (Edward Holcroft) and they have plans for their future. The problem is telling Ben's mom Margaret (Fiona Shaw) and Thomas (Jack Lowden). When their announcement is not well received, Ben makes it clear that it does not change their plans.

At work Charlotte is not feeling well and friend Jane (Chloe Pirrie) takes her to the doctor discovering she is pregnant. Not sure this is what she wants, Ben is thrilled, and Margaret sees this as a reason to change their moving plans.

After a tragic accident, Jane stays with Margaret while dealing with her grief. Thomas is constantly making sure that she has everything she needs. Day by day Charlotte learns what Margaret is controlling her life.

Charlotte is not about to give up any part of her life to the dilapidated mansion, Margaret or anyone else who tries to stand in her way.

Lawrance as Charlotte loves working with animals and life with Ben. Believing that their change of address is a good thing, she supports Ben's announcement to the family. When her life changes, Lawrance portrays a woman who is not ready for what is waiting for her. Yet, there are moments of pure brilliance when the mixture of reality and history come into play.

Shaw as Margaret has the keen ability to be disturbing without actually being outwardly disturbing. Her words are sharp and cutting, mainly aimed at Charlotte firmly believing they wouldn't even be considering moving if it wasn't for her. Of course, there is a history and mystery to Margaret and Shaw keeps it going throughout the film. Margaret is much like the house - run down but never giving an ounce of pride away.

Lowden as Thomas is a member of the family in a way that does not please Ben in the slightest. Once Charlotte is in the house, he tries to do whatever it takes to make her happy and feel safe.  Like Charlotte, there are moments of naivete mixed with a deep, dark story underneath. This character is a complete mystery until the very last frame.

Other cast include Toyah Frantzen as the Doctor, Nyree Yergainharsian as Doctor Rios, Natalia Kostrzewa as Betty, Kiran Sawar as Linsey, and Anton Lesser as Dr. Richards.

KINDRED is a reminder - KNOW THE FAMILY YOU’RE MESSING WITH. Yes, I put those in caps because this film gave me the creeps from start to finish. From the house to those living in it, there is a history, a mystery and something peculiar about them all. The house is actually a silent character that keeps the secrets but also can't help but show the viewer a peek into everything.

This film is also a bit reminiscent of ROSEMARY'S BABY (minus the devil although Margaret and Thomas as devil-ish), HUSH (1998) with Jessica Lange as Martha Baring and a few other films. Not that I am complaining mind you, if you can take a theme and go in a different direction and not have it be completely obvious then I'm all for it.

Prepare to believe, disbelieve, puzzle and unravel the past of all those living under one roof.

In the end - mother knows best!

RADIUM GIRLS Have a Story That Needed Telling

Coming from directors Lydia Dean Pilcher, Ginny Mohler and Juno Films is a story that has finally had an opportunity to be told about the RADIUM GIRLS.

Living in New Jersey in the 20's, Josephine (Abby Quinn) and Bessie (Joey King) are sisters who work at the American Radium factory painting faces on clocks. Bessie was hired when their older sister passed as the family needed the money to survive. Using radium on the clock faces, the technique used had the brushes going into the mouths of all the women working.

Day after day the girls would come in and do their job, but Bessie wants more in her life - like a little fun and excitement. Josephine, being the responsible one, did her best to keep the younger sister from trouble. Yet, slowly, Josephine has begun to feel tired and Bessie has noticed. Convincing her to see Dr. Flint (Neal Huff), Josephine is told that she is fine and then told she has syphilis.

Bessie decides she is going to try and find out for herself what is wrong with Josephine and to her horror is told that the radium used at the clock factory is the culprit. Not getting any help from the company, she starts to look elsewhere when Josephine is in dire condition. Finding Wiley (Cara Seymour), a lawsuit is filed giving those affected the chance to prove that the clock manufacturer is responsible for sickness and death.

It will take time and courage for the truth to be revealed!

Quinn as Josephine is a diligent sister who wants the family to stay together at all costs. With the death of their older sister, she feels even more responsible to keep the money coming in by getting Bessie a job at the same factory. Slowly feeling that something is wrong, she tries to cover it up until it cannot be covered any longer.

King as sister Bessie is a 'wild child' for her time wanting more than just spending time painting faces on a clock. Pushing the limits of what is acceptable for a young lady of the day, all of that comes to a halt when her anger turns toward the doctor who is not helping her sister. King has the ability to show anger in a unique and sometimes scary way. In this film she gets the chance to use that anger for something greater than herself.

Seymour as Wiley immediately knows what is wrong with Josephine and is dedicated to helping Bessie. It takes some thought and courage because women of the time did not question men, Seymour offers up a strong shoulder to make what needs to happen, actually happen.

RADIUM GIRLS is the story of hundreds of women who worked in factories during World War I. Using radium in the painted dials, this case would be one that change laws. The hideousness of girls lives, and reputations being ruined by company doctors using the excuse that the girls has syphilis to cover up their crime is maddening.

Marie Curie knew a thing or two about radium and what it can do to the body. It is unfortunate the women did not know about her but I am going to bet dollars to ducats that the men did. Even more frightening is realizing that people were told that radium was good for them finding it in water, cosmetics and toothpaste.

I was particularly moved by the film so much so that I started researching the subject myself and was horrified by what I found. That is what a film like RADIUM GIRLS does for the general public, make themselves aware of the history to make sure it never, ever happens again.

RADIUM GIRLS is a lesson and a story that deserves its place on the screen.

In the end - the fight was for them all!

THE PLACE OF NO WORDS is a Stunning Place

Coming to theatres from writer/director Mark Webber and Gravitas Ventures is a touching tale when a boy asks a simple question to create THE PLACE OF NO WORDS.

Three-year-old Bodhi (Bodhi Palmer) deals with the question of 'where do we go when we die?' with parents Mark (Mark Webber) and Teresa (Teresa Palmer). In the real world there is something wrong with Dad and Mom tries to share her feelings, but she is not even sure what those are. Trying to find a way to explain to Bodhi about death becomes difficult for both parents.

That is where the creative story comes in as a young boy and his father are on a boat in the ocean looking for Freeka. Once on land they watch the sunset as their journey really beings. They climb higher and higher preparing to defend themselves from anything that comes across their path.

In the fantasy, a winged fairy takes father and son to The Forest where they listen to the story of the Grumblers with all the other fairies. When the times comes, each of the fairies wish the warriors well on their continued journey filled with unexpected finds. The boy soon discovers that he has a bit of magic within him and the witch of the forest knows it too. In reality, Mark is getting sicker and sicker with Bodhi not wanting to believe that his father is ill at all.

Trying to get home, they meet the vicious Grumblers who are not quite so vicious after all! All of this to allow Bodhi to find Freeka, which is something he always had from the very beginning.

THE PLACE OF NO WORDS is a journey of a boy and his father filled with questions, deep thought, beauty and the relationship between the two.  In both worlds they are warriors and in both worlds, they love one another.

The reality is harsh as the parents try and find a way to explain death while not letting it overpower the time that they have together. It is clear that Bodhi's father is conflicted, and it is at time so emotional to watch (as I'm sure any parent would react) yet it is his young son that keeps him in the present moments.

The haunting beauty comes from the adventure that the 'Viking' father and son have on their epic journey to find Freeka. Along the way they meet fairies, Grumbles, see magic, colorful forests, a different kind of swamp and so much more. It is such an extraordinary story and told in a way that is unique, thought provoking, heart wrenching and yet stunningly beautiful.

The director has kept things simple with the cinematography which allowed me, at least, to focus on the story and not get mired down by anything else. You could almost say Webber went right for the heart strings and played us like Itzhak Perlman for ninety-five minutes. I did not mind in the slightest and neither will anyone else.

In the end - one world cannot exist without the other.

Prepare for the Journey and the HAUNTING OF THE MARY CELESTE

Coming from director Shana Betz and Vertical Entertainment comes a story that leaves the passengers nowhere to go when investigating the HAUNTING OF THE MARY CELESTE.

Rachel (Emily Swallow) is on a research mission, to discover what happened to the passengers of the ship Mary Celeste. Haunted by her own beliefs because of a tragedy she still cannot come to grips with, Rachel hires a ship to take them to the last know coordinates of the ship.

The captain hired to take them leaves Rachel, assistants Grant (Dominic DeVore) and Cassandra (Alice Hunter) abandoned on the dock. Seeing another ship, Rachel asks Captain Tulls (Richard Roundtree) if he wants the job. Convincing him with a wad of cash, Tulls and his crewmate Aldo (Pierre Adele) take them all where they want to go.

As they get closer, strange things begin to happen that even the non-believer Captain Tulls cannot ignore, although he does quite well. Rachel believes there is a rift between this world and where the passengers of the Mary Celeste are.

Suddenly the boat ceases to function and Aldo investigates something he hears. Radioing for help, Rachel convinces Tulls that they only have a certain amount of time to prove her theory and that, along with more money keeps them in an ever-growing fog.

Finally, Rachel must come to terms with her past, what she believes and what is happening to everyone on the boat before it is too late for them all!

Swallow as Rachel is having a difficult time with mixing her own tragedy with that of the passengers aboard the Mary Celeste. Along with her equipment, proving the rift is the goal and nothing is going to stop her. Swallow gives us a character that is willing to do anything to finally get the answers to the one question she carries 'is there a connection between her and the Mary Celeste'?

Roundtree as Tulls is a straightforward, no bull kind of sea captain. Convincing him to take the job seemed difficult, but a wad of cash can make even a grumpy captain take notice. He does not believe in the rift or in what Rachel is doing but a job is a job - until it isn't. It is nice to see Roundtree on screen again and in a film that gives him both gruffness and shock carrying his role well.

DeVore as Grant believes in what Rachel is doing but I suspect there is more than a researcher’s mode in this. Following the trail along with Rachel, he does believe but there is a difference between believing a thing and seeing for one's self. Hunter as Cassandra is just a piece of work pure and simple. She does not seem to be along for the true research but more for class credit. Adele as Aldo is not happy about this job from the get-go, with plenty of reason to be.

In December 1872, the vessel Mary Celeste captained by Benjamin Briggs never arrived at its destination in Italy.  Captain Morehouse of the Dei Gratia boarded the ship only to discover charts thrown around, the crew's quarters intact, a pump disassembled, one lifeboat missing and all cargo along with supplies still intact. Thus, began a mystery that still is with us today.

Which brings us to HAUNTING OF THE MARY CELESTE and the opportunity to suggest the rift theory. Director Betz takes us into a realm of fog, disbelief, strange happenings and what could happen between this world and the rift.

This is the kind of film that I love in this genre. It is not full of gore but instead spooks, twists, creaking, fog and sounds from the 'other side' as it were. The story being told is best seen in a dark room with a sound bar attached to your television to get the awesome creepy affect. Did I mention a tub of popcorn would be an added bonus? Well, it would because the yarn being woven for us is tub worthy.

In the end - fear lies beneath!

Coming from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on Bluray for its 35 Anniversary in an awesome set are the iconic films that everyone still watches today with director Robert Zemekis and BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Ultimate Trilogy.

It is 1985 the BACK TO THE FUTURE story is Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who is not your ordinary 17-year-old. Living with Dad George (Crispin Glover), Mom Lorraine (Lea Thompson) and siblings Dave (Marc McClure) and Linda (Wendie Jo Sperber), they have the average American life.

Marty likes hanging around Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) who has some amazing inventions. His latest is a DeLorean that he has turned into a time machine. That is where the problems begin as Marty ends up back in time to when his parents first met. He has to do everything possible to make that happen once again, and help Doc fix a DeLorean, but only if he can keep Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) away!

Things get a little more complicated in BACK TO THE FUTURE II in 1989 as Doc (Christopher Lloyd) comes to Marty (Michael J. Fox) and girlfriend Jennifer (Elisabeth Shue) to let him know that he must repeat his 1955 visit to the past because something is brewing in 1985. Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) saw something in the past that has changed the future for Marty's kids and only he can fix it.

Biff has other plans, Jennifer hears things she doesn't want to while Marty and Doc try to  put everything back into place. Confused yet, so is everyone one else but the fun that comes along with watching it all play out makes the film still drive into our hearts.

In 1989, it is 1955 where Marty (Michael J. Fox) learns that Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) is in 1885 has died at the hands of Biff's relative Buford (Thomas F. Wilson). Knowing that he must get to Doc before that day happens, Marty is now in the Old West even though he has a note asking that asks Marty not to find him.

Finding the DeLorean, Marty hides it and runs into ancestors Seamus (Michael J. Fox) and Maggie McFly (Lea Thompson). He also finds Emmett (Christopher Lloyd) as they try to find a way to get the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour. The only way is using a locomotive to push the car to the speed needed. Doc has also met the very sweet Clara (Mary Steenburgen) who doesn't realize she has a part to play in all of this as well.

It may be the Old West but Marty and Doc know how to make it back to the future!

Fox as Marty brought many of us into theaters over and over again to enjoy each of the three BACK TO THE FUTURE films. As Marty, this actor brought laughs, perfect delivery of lines and an innocence that only Fox could pull off. At the time he was coming off his stint on the television series FAMILY TIES playing the role of Alex P. Keating - another iconic role, Fox showed that he had a lot more to give audiences. Through each film he never let us down with very cool antics and storylines in each film.

By his side, Lloyd will always be the one and only Doc! His wide-eyed wonder and constant inventing throughout the times they travel is perfection. This first time I recall seeing Lloyd was his role as Reverend Jim Ignatowski on the stunning television series TAXI. He always made me laugh, think and have moments where questions marks had to have been above my head. Taking on the role of Doc, Lloyd got the chance to really let loose and be as eccentric as possible and we, the audience, ate it up.

Wilson as Biff/Bufford never once let his foot off the proverbial gas playing this role. Talk about the duality of a person, BACK TO THE FUTURE shows us what happens when you do right by people and when you do sneaky scandalous things. Wilson gives us the best of both and does it deliciously well. Glover as George gave a duality to the role of Marty's father and Thompson brought Lorraine again and again. Honestly, I cannot imagine any other two actors being Marty's parents!

THE MOTHMAN LEGACY Give Us a Deeper Look into the Mystery and the Legend

Coming from director Seth Breedlove and 1091 bring THE MOTHMAN LEGACY exclusively on Digital Streaming Platforms this week.

It has been over 50 years since the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant West Virginia as the town is rebuilding. In the town is a museum dedicated to - the Mothman. West Virginia is filled with rivers, bridges and rolling hills. It brings tourists and those looking to see the beauty this state has to offer.

The lands have a generational history, first with the Indians who believed the land was cursed, to the Scotch-Irish people who, being considered outsiders, moved to the base of the Appalachian Mountains. The cultures folklore began to become blended with ghost stories etc. leading to the 60's first speaking of the Mothman. In this documentary, many people remember their experience and share their story of the Mothman.

Thinking what happened at the bridge ended Mothman, nothing could have been further from the truth. The stories were still happening from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and still in West Virginia and Point Pleasant. Cray Barker and Mary Hyre kept the article of sightings coming. John Keel wrote "The Mothman Prophecy's" book. It ignites even more controversy. Screenwriter Richard Hatem took to Keel's book with interest.

Near the area of Point Pleasant is an area known as the T&T and in the 60's the Mothman was called 'The Bird'. The original title of Keel's book was "The Year of the Garuda" but it didn't get past the publishers. The Garuda can be found in many cultures and people believed it was a mutant bird because of the toxic waste in the T&T area.

The stories kept on coming and in the 1990's, the Mothman was still around. Eyewitnesses come to the documentary ready to their experiences. After Keel's book, theories began to emerge from an Indian curse and more thought perhaps it came from another plane of existence. With that more and more sightings are told. Each person truly believes in what they saw and do not hesitate in speaking.

In the 2000's, a website "Mothman Lives" arrives on the internet that talks about the town and the T&T area. Later, the film THE MOTHEMAN PROPHECIES, there is even more light brought to the sightings with intense descriptions and the admittance of fear. Keel was thrilled that the movies was being done. Jeff Wamsley from the website also wrote two books "THE MOTHMAN: The Facts Behind the Legend" and "THE MOTHMAN: Behind the Red Eyes" which led to the museum.

The question asks by many "is the Mothman the Harbinger of doom?" and they compare the like to the Welsh-Irish character "the Banshee" with red hair and red eyes. Is there an ancient secret here? It is not just sightings as some have had more intense experiences. The Mothman museum is doing well and Keel passes in 2009 but saw Point Pleasant one more time.

Screenwriter Hatem says, "I have never experienced anything. I have never seen a UFO or seen a ghost or a weird phone call, none of it. I used to look at people who have experienced this with envy…now I don't feel that way anymore at all" Wamsley's research keeps Point Pleasant front and center with the Mothman Festival that happens each year.

It is a new way to keep an old tradition alive with storytelling. Getting the stories and documenting them for the museum and leaving a legacy for the Mothman and helping the community of Point Pleasant. Now, it is a family affair - as it should be!

THE MOTHMAN LEGACY is truly an interesting look at what most people do not know about the Mothman itself. The history is presented making it clear that not only do people believe, but there is nothing you can say to them to undo that belief.

The hold fast to their culture of the legends surrounding the people and the places they live. That is what drew me to this documentary from the beginning. My family holds steadfast to the family stories and pictures believing that it is important for the generations to come to understand their roots.

Granted most do not have such legends as the Mothman as my own does about the Banshee, but one thing is for sure - the Mothman has made his mark on those of us who want to know more. Director Breedlove lets the documentary take us places the film did not have time to. I am a total fan of the film

In the end - the forests of the Appalachia hide an ancient secret!

 

A Heavenly Blessing Comes to Bluray and Digital with FATIMA

Currently on Digital and coming to DVD from director Marco Pontecorvo and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is the story of three children holding their belief in FATIMA.

Professor Nichols (Harvey Keitel) arrives at the convent to meet Sister Lucia dos Santos (Sonia Braga), a woman with a story to tell. It is an incident that happened, and Nichols is skeptical.

In a small town of Fatima in Portugal, it is 1917 and World War I is having an effect on the parents of soldiers. Mayor Artur (Goran Visnijic) spends some mornings reading off the names in the town square of those who will not be coming home.

The Santos family is also waiting to hear what has happened to their eldest son. Young shepherds Lucia (Stephanie Gil) and cousins Francisco (Jorge Lamelas) and Jacinta (Alejandra Howard) find comfort in the time they spend together in the mountains. One day while together, the three children see a lovely woman who speaks to them. Lucia and Jacinta are captivated but Francisco is unable to hear her but can see her.

Going home, it is not long before Lucia's parents are upset to learn from Francisco what happened on the mountain. Believing that they are making it up, Lucia tells them that the Blessed Virgin wants everyone to pray to bring peace to a suffering world. Mother is not the only one that is upset as the Mayor, secular government and the Catholic Church.

Again, and again the children are put in situations to scare them into recanting their story. Especially when people begin to show up in droves to the town of Fatima wanting to see the children and hope for a miracle. The children are told to return again and again as Lucia sees more and more of what the future holds.

Until the Miracle of the Sun!

Braga as Sister Lucia has a sense of humor but does not seem to suffer fools. She is very straight forward with the story of what happened as a child and Braga gives her character an endearing sense of peace. Keitel as Nichols comes in ready to tear Sister Lucia apart because of his own lack of believing what he cannot see. The thing about Keitel is that he does not back down with any role he plays and trust he is not going to do it with this one either! Well done to both actors.

Gil as Lucia is a young girl who knows that what she has seen is not going to be believed yet holds fast to what the lady on the mountain tells her. She believes and nothing is going to change that, even the chance to have the chaos stop. Gil brings a young girls’ insecurities and sadness in this bold performance. Howard as Jacinta has a destiny but that doesn't deter her from holding onto the beauty she experiences with cousin Luisa.

Visnjic as Artur is a Mayor who wants to keep his job more than believing the three children of his town. He is not the first leader to care more about his title than the people he represents. Lamelas as Francisco is a young boy who trust cousins Lucia and Jacinta and even if he can't hear, he trusts and opens his heart to what is possible.

Almeida as Father Ferreira takes his time but slowly begins to understand what is actually happening in Fatima and does what he can for the children. Ribeiro as Mary gives the ethereal performance providing the children with knowledge that is powerful and sad at the same time.

Other cast includes Joaquim de Almeida as Father Ferreira, Joao Arrais as Manuel Santos, Lucia Moniz as Maria Rosa, Marco d'Almeida as Antonio and Joana Ribeiro as the Virgin Mary.

Growing up I was, and still am, a fan of black and white films. My first introduction was the 1943 film SONG OF BERNADETTE which I still watch to this day. Jennifer Jones is Bernadette, a lovely young girl who sees a woman with roses on her feet setting the town Lourdes town in 1858 on edge. She was constantly harassed as many attempted to make her out as a liar or crazy. She would prove them all wrong. 

Here we are in 2020 and another such film as SONG OF BERNADETTE brings hope, love and the strength of believe in the 1917 story of FATIMA. Now, three young children are in the middle of war when they also see a beautiful lady who speaks to them and shares with Lucia what the future holds. Once again, they are pit up against those who would rather trod over the children rather than believe in something greater than themselves.

That is a marvelous thing in these times, a story that reminds us all of what brightness can shine out of the darkness. The story is not a spectacle - yet it absolutely is because of the simplicity of the story Sister Lucia tells Professor Nichols. She does not waiver, she smiles when put to task and has a sense of humor that made me chuckle. That is a Sister I want to be around!

The children are so lovely in their portrayal as Lucia, Fernando and Jacinta because they gave their characters realism, an endearing child innocence and a strength that gave their performance believability. That is what makes FATIMA worth every moment of watching.

In the end - people need hope and they received a miracle!

Life is Not Easy Unless You’re a KAJILLIONAIRE

Coming from writer/director Miranda July and Focus Features comes the extraordinary story of one woman’s journey to being a KAJILLIONAIRE.

Old Dolio (Evan Rachel Wood) lives with her mother Theresa (Debra Winger) and father Robert (Richard Jenkins) in a storefront building. During the day they spend their time finding ways to earn a few dollars and food while avoiding their landlord Stovik (Mark Ivanir). From a quick trip to New York to shady dealings, they have managed to carve a life out for themselves.

But Old Dolio is a little different staying a bit withdrawn, does not trust anyone and not too many helpful social skills. One day they meet Melanie (Gina Rodriguez) who seems to understand the family. Robert and Theresa take to Melanie quickly and enjoy her company, especially when she comes up with a plan to be a part of another – well, hustle.

At first Old Dolio is not thrilled with having Melanie around but slowly she becomes curious about the girl. She finally blows up at her parents letting them know she is tired of not being recognized with such things as birthdays etc. Going to Melanie’s house, Old Dolio is introduced to what goes on in the real world and is delighted.

Giving her parents one more chance to make her feel as if she is important to them, both Old Dolio and Melanie believe everyone deserves a second chance, or third chance…or fourth chance.

Wood as Old Dolio is delightful, unknowingly funny, sweet, and yet full of curiosity and even righteous anger. Hiding behind her clothes and hair, Old Dolio cannot hide the fact that she is also quite intelligent in the world of hustling. Watching this character bloom is endearing, charming and you want to scoop her up and show her the world. That is how invested you can become following her journey. Well done Ms. Wood.

Rodriguez as Melanie is a hustler in her own way but not as much of an expert as her new friends. She has a conscience and also sees something in Old Dolio that melts her heart and brings out a protective feeling that Old Dolio has never known. Rodriguez is sweet, smart and gives her character a little soul.

Jenkins as Robert lives in his own little world that really does not include his wife and daughter. It is almost as if he sees them more as employees than family. Jenkins has the most amazing way of portraying his characters with a sense of innocence in the midst of being a huge hustler. Winger as Theresa lets her husband do as he will and throws in her opinion here and there. Once confronted by Old Dolio, Winger’s reaction is one I did not expect and yet I did which adds to the mixture of feelings about what it takes to be a hustling mom.

Shout out to Ivanir as Stovik cracks me up. He is constantly there to try and get the rent from his tenants, but it is his moments of emotion that come out of no where that are confusing and filled with bubbles (you will see!). It is hard to run a business and be a landlord but Stovik adds a little something more.

Other cast include Patricia Belcher as Althea, Diana Riva as Farida, Da’Vine Randolph as Jenny and Rachel Redleaf as Kelli.

KAJILLIONAIRE is a film about the open dysfunction of this particular family but added in that is hustle - both physical and emotional. These characters bounce off one another and they are so unsure of it all that it is easy to see how they are taken in by their own mess.

What this film does bring is the journey of Old Dolio, a young girl that is basically living in a bubble to seeing her discover what it is to trust someone and discovering that her presence in the universe has value – without the hustle. The relationship between Old Dolio and Melanie bring so much hope and delight so its essential to congratulate Wood and Rodriguez for their amazing work.

This film is filled with creativity, originality and everything in between. Writer/director July has brought a film that I will be hollering for people to see for quite a while. Well done Ms. July, well done.

In the end – know your worth!

There is Nothing Worse than Being ALONE

Currently On Demand and coming to Bluray/DVD from director Johnny Martin and Lionsgate is the worst case scenario when zombies are outside your door and you are ALONE.

Aidan (Tyler Posey) has just stumbled out of bed and made his way to the television. Still a bit sleepy it takes him a moment to realize what he is seeing on television. News people are reporting something strange happening in the city. Aidan goes out to the patio and sees people running and then – attacking – and eating their prey.

Getting back in his apartment he is confronted by a neighbor who does not look to well. Getting him out is the easy part, what waits in the hallway is pure hell. Trying to reach his family is also the truth is he is very alone. The days go by slowly and painfully with the realization that food and water are going to be depleted.

One day, looking out the window across the courtyard he thinks he sees someone. Wondering if he is delusional, he looks again the next day and sees Eva (Summer Spiro). Thrilled to have someone else to talk to, it starts out with paper and pen. Now, Adian has someone else to care for instead of worrying only for himself.

On a mission to find more food and water, Aidan runs into Edward (Donald Sutherland), an elderly gentleman who has also found a way to survive so far. They have a nice conversation about what they are doing to make it through. That is when Aidan discovers that Edward will do just about anything.

Aidan and Eva are getting good at surviving!

Posey as Aidan is a young man who seems to be living the “me” life. Surfing, girls and family is his main focus until all that no longer matters. He has plenty of time now to think about what is important to him. Discovering Eva gives him a purpose, to care for someone other than himself and Aidan is taking it seriously. Posey gives us a look at the solitude of surviving physically and mentally because I personally would not be running in the streets either. I truly enjoyed his performance seeing one person’s perspective.

Spiro as Eva is a young woman who has also managed to survive. Staying quiet so as not to alert the very unusual flesh eaters outside her door, she is also thrilled at being able to talk to Aidan. Eva instantly connects with him and kicks into a mode of being protective when she cannot reach him. Spiro is sweet and gets a chance to put her ninja-like skills into action avoiding her unruly and teeth gnashing neighbors.

Ah, lets talking about the one and only Donald Sutherland as Edward. Of course, he is a kind, gentle and sharing gentlemen with Aidan. Having a chance to talk with someone about what has been happening is also a plus. Sutherland never settles for being just a regular guy, there is always something very special about the roles he chooses and in ALONE, he chose to prove me with a jaw drop. I love that guy pure and simple!

A shout out to all the actors and actresses that jumped in and gave us a look at a zombie that has some semblance of what they are doing yet do it very well. Reminds me of payday Fridays at the local In N’ Out Burger – a raging group of desperate human beings wanting nothing more than to sink their teeth into a juicy piece of meat! Well done one and all.

Lets give credit to Robert Ri’chard as poor neighbor Brandon, John Posey as Aidan’s Dad, Josey Martin as Vanessa, Jenny Martin as Kat, Brooke Swallow as Jessica, Kjerstin Bell as the News Anchor, Eric Etebari as Jack Brian, Debbie Swallow as Aidan’s Mom and Greg Fitzpatrick as Field Reporter Josh Harp as the amazing TALL SCREAMER (gawd he creeped me out).

ALONE is a look at what happens when you are caught inside without warning! What is pretty cool about this film is that Aidan is believable. By that I mean we would all check our food, check our phones, watch television, get on the computer and when that is all taken away – we are forced to contemplate the basic physical and emotional trauma.

Let us talk about these gnarly group of crazy biters – they speak! One must wonder why they chose to say the things they did. I tend to think it was the last thought they had before the virus overtook them. They are fast but not lightening fast, they are a bit clever as you will see and that makes these zombies a tad more frightening.

In the middle of a pandemic and some of us being inside a lot, ALONE will give you pause and think about investing in plexiglass windows. So, cuddle up buttercup with your favorite pandemic-pal and popcorn up to ALONE.

In the end – find your survival space!

San Diego International Film Festival Begins Virtually

 

Two Sisters Collide in NOCTURNE

Coming to Prime Video is an Amazon Original from Welcome to Blumhouse and writer/director Zu Quirke and the tale of NOCTURNE.

Sisters Juliet (Sydney Sweeney) and Vivian (Madison Iseman) were once as close as two sisters could possibly be. That is until music came into their lives, both playing the piano, outgoing Vivian pulls ahead in achievements as the not-so-outgoing Juliet suffers with it in silence.

Their last year of high school brings a final music performance which is especially difficult as one of their classmates has died. As auditions open up, Vivian plays a piece that wow's the judges and Juliet decides to play the same piece of music. Vivian is clearly upset but wants Juliet to know that it won't upset her for long.

One evening as Juliet is practicing, she is distracted by a light and finds a notebook that belonged to the student who died. Becoming more and more interested in what is in the notebook, Juliet starts to change.

Almost overnight she takes on everything that she feels has slowed her down, beginning with teacher Roger (John Rothman) calling him out for his inadequacies and replacing him with teacher Mike (A.J. Tannen). She turns on her own sister to make it clear that Juliet no longer is willing to be second best. Juliet also decides its time to follow her heart and go after Max (Jacques Colimon).

Juliet's opportunity finally comes as she prepares to play for a big school audience. What she doesn't know is that the notebook has other plans for her. 

Sweeney as Juliet is a young girl who just can't seem to find her place. Feeling like she is the failure of the family, her parents try to encourage her. Making things worse is when sister Vivian gets accepted into a prestigious school for music and Juliet does not. That sets things up for the issues that are deep and scaring. Sweeney gives us a performance of a young girl in pain and looking for a way through it all. She thinks the notebook offers that!

Iseman as Vivian is the sister who is outgoing, friendly, has lots of people around her and a relationship. Winning achievements and then accepted into the school she wanted, she sees how it hurts Juliet but doesn't seem to care - until she does. The tug of war between Sweeney and Iseman is deep and these two actresses pull it off well.

Colimon as Max is living his high school life to the fullest but sees that something is happening to both the sisters. Caught up in something he doesn't understand is an understatement for sure. Colimon's performance of Max is quick and filled with regret and that's all I'm going to say.

Tannen as Mike is a teacher who is watching the twists and turns of Juliet and Vivian's relastionship. Discovering that Juliet can actually play, he encourages her in a way that left even my head tilted with question and jaw dropped with intent.

Other cast include Julie Benz as Cassie, Rodney To as Wilkins, JoNell as Ms. Gordon, Brandon Keener as David, Miles McKenna as Alexis, Asia Jackson as Abigail, Philip Wampler as Walter, Stephon Fuller as Joshua, and Ji Eun Hwang as Moira.
